We are leaving from Newark to Paris, Paris to Nice, and Paris back to Houston in two weeks.

I am confused about the travel restrictions and am hoping someone could help. I have looked up the airlines info and even the airport but am still confused.

I know that domestically, no liquids allowed.. however, if you are leaving from Newark to Paris and not travelling throughout the US, is this okay? If liquids are a no, what about camera, laptop, book, etc?

I think I'm confused in this area mostly because we are not flying to the UK..

Now, I see on Air France (our carrier from Paris-Nice-Paris), no liquids to US are allowed.. does anyone know about within France routes?

Not sure if I'm just not reading things right or not. Please let me know if you can clarify for me. Thanks! Kate

Let me see if I can break this down for you: The TSA, NOT the air carriers, has banned liquids and gels as carry-ons-this means you will NOT be able to take any of this through any American airport screening checkpoint-so it must be thrown away or checked.

Portable electronics-these items ARE NOT at this time banned-therefore, if you are not going to transit the UK, then you CAN bring them on board with you-UNLESS AF has banned electronic devices, which I don't believe AF has done. Books, reading materials, all fine.

Out of CDG-outbound on AF to the States-you WILL NOT be able to bring liquids or gels on board, as you are traveling to the States, and the TSA has banned these items-therefore, the French aviation security personnel at CDG will take these away from you prior to your passing through the checkpoint. You WILL be able to bring your portable electronic devices and all reading materials on board with you.

Paris-Nice-Paris-I don't believe that AF or any French domestic subsidiary of AF has banned either electronics, liquids or gels, so you should be able to bring any type of liquid or gel-based item on board with you for these intra-France flights, including your electronics.

We are flying Continental to/from Paris and AF to/from Paris and Nice.

Take a look at changing the section after arriving in Paris. You might find it's cheaper (maybe-not sure) and faster (again-I'm not sure). You could take the TGV direct to Nice and you won't have the restrictions from air travel.

It's just a thought.

Delta's website has the complete text along with some of their added tips. It has "From and within the US" and "To the US" that you are asking about. Easily understood. I would think that all airline websites would have the same.

Liquids are banned from all flights from France to the UK, USA and Israel. Allowed on all other flights.

I'd keep an eye on the internet, then double-check with your specific air carrier one day before you fly.

Obviously, when you get to baggage check in at the airport, ask. If, say, you planned to take a laptop in hand luggage and you cannot, simply check it.

Also obviously, do not plan on even bringing a lap top, cell phone, and other electronics unless you must do so for work. On a holiday trip, you really do not need all these things. If you want to check your email in Europe, go to an internet cafe. If you absolutely cannot live without a cell phone, buy one in Europe and put it in checked luggage going home.

The real hardship here will be for business travelers who work on planes. Not only will they be unable to work, they will be worried about damage to their laptops. I am certain business travelers know to entirely back up their laptops before getting on a plane just in case.

I will say what I have said on other threads: We really do not know what these fascist thugs were planning. It is far more important to arrive safely than to be blown to bits somewhere over the Atlantic. If you are prepared--and the airlines stock a lot of magazines--the inconvenience for vacation travelers should be minimal.

Thanks for posting that, AAFrequentFlyer. The dimensions of the carry-on are small (about the size of a smaller backpack), but much better than before. Amend your packing lists, gang.
