Concerts in St. Petersburg

Staying in St. Petersburg for 3-4 days in July and hoping to book a concert. Heard the Yusopov may have concerts but cannot find a website for the palace. Does anyone know how to contact the Yusopov Palace for their calendar and ticket/availability?

Also would like to get a private tour to the Stiglitz Museum even though we understand it is closed for the summer. Cannot find their telephone number or a website for it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Try this site: http://petersburgcity.com/theaters/

You may find something here.

P.S. What does ttt mean??

This is to bardo1.

If you haven't anything positive to say, please refrain from speaking.

We have done the homework, but the people at the concerts halls etc. speak only Russian and there is little or no info such as fax or websites to assist people that live outside of Russia.

mweiner,

ttt is shorthand for "to the top" and is often used here at Fodor's to bring a particular post to the top of the queue of topics at left.

I topped this post yesterday only because I myself plan to visit St. Petersburg for the first time and was interested in the responses you might get to your questions.

By doing this, it brought your original post up so that more people would see it. Topping also allows me to keep up with any new responses by clicking on my own screen name.

I hope that you get some additional responses to your inquiry - I too am interested in what others have to offer you in this matter.

Whew!

Mweiner, Bardo tried to be helpful by pulling your post up to the top (ttt) so more people can see it.

We easily booked tickets at the Mariinsky theater. http://www.mariinsky.ru/en

You can also prebuy your tickets to the Hermitage, which we did. http://www.hermitagemuseum.org/html_En/index.html

The Mussorsky theater has wonderful operas etc at its beautiful theater too. http://www.mikhailovsky.ru/e_afisha.htm

However for some that are a bit off the "must see/do" list and beaten path, such as the Yusupov and Rimsky-Korsakov concerts, it is very difficult.

Another good overall resource is www.inyourpocket.com. They have website links to many museums.

Please feel free to ask qny questions.

Now we all know what ttt is.

I looked around for a few minutes on www.peterout.ru regarding the "Yusupovskii Dvorets- Theater" question (this website does have an English-page, as well- it's pretty comprehensive). I found a fax number for the theater-(812) 314-32-39. This might be a bit better! Chances are very good that someone there speaks English and can help you, but they may not be the one answering the phone at the box office! I also found the following phone numbers:
(812)314-98-83, 314-88-93, 314-86-90

I found a website that lists performances by day in July- I poked around a bit, but nothing is coming up yet for the month. Art exhibitions are, though- so I wonder if maybe even the smaller theaters in StPb have taken to closing for the summer months? I can check with a friend in Piter tomorrow and find out a bit more...

: ) To be continued...

mweiner-

I don't want you to think I've forgotten about you!! I haven't been able to get in touch with my "piter-people"- my guess is they went away for the holiday weekend. As soon as I can get them, I'll let you know! Do you have specific dates in mind for concerts? If there is nothing at the Yusupov, would you like for me to find out what else is available?

Hi all.

Thank you for taking the time to help.

We are looking at mid July dates, depending on what is available.

Thought of faxing the Yusupov. So will do that this week.

I did find a simple concert at the philharmonic hall. Tickets are not yet available.

Just as an aside- I went to see an orchestra from Moscow in Amsterdam a few years back. They had to cancel and return to Russia due to lack of funds. The Concertgebouw returned our money, gave us refreshments and a tour of the hall, including the attic, showing us how they made all the lighting effects etc.

Again, we are very happy with all of your suggestions, they are helpful.

mweiner-
My friend Polina (in StPb) is happy to help! Do you have specific dates in mind? This makes it easier for her- she can go to the Theater Box Offices to find out.
