Concert in Vienna

Hi,

I am going to be in Vienna on 15 October and was wondering if anyone had any advice about performances that night (opera or orchestra). I gather that some of the Orchestras are a bit touristy and would prefer to avoid that if possible.

I would be grateful of any recommendations.

Thanks

Late to be looking for better tickets - the best offering Vienna State Opera
www.wiener-staatsoper.at

LaTraviata

check - sold out - try wait list or hotel concierge or ticket agency

alternative

Volksoper

www.volksoper.at

Salome

If you are a music lover and enjoy better music - try to avoid the tourist type offerings - some times at good venues - but orchestras are small - 20- 30 members - fixed program leads to boredom by performers -high priced for quality offered.

Hi molker,

Thanks for your reply. I have wait-listed for La Traviata.

I know it's late to be organising tickets, but our reason for travelling has only just come up.

With regard to the tourist type offerings, in a worst case scenario, are any of them better than the others or are they much of a muchness and better to go with the best venue?

Thanks

Hard choices for recommendations-

In city center an intimate but beautiful venue with much history -

Mozart played here - most consider this the oldest music venue in Vienna- eccelent acoustics and with the small size - almoat a private concert for you 100 +- seats.
A Quartet playing good music

www.mozarthaus.at

Varied other tourist oriented concerts - usually relatively small orchestras even 20- 30 musicians - most often period costumes and wigs - Strauus , Mozart most often. Various names of hese - Mosart Oechestra , Hofburg Orchestra and others.

These groups often rent major venues like Musikverein for some concerts-
at least a way to see such halls - but be most careful
the Musikverein has several halls other than well known main concert hall famed as the venue for the New Years Concert.
Such lesser halls such as the Brahms Hall can be a surprise to concert goers.

Vienna, City of Music.

Here's a list of the possible musical venues in Vienna:

Hope you can get into one event. Usually you can get same-day tickets for the Volksoper, which is better at doing the fun operettas.

You can also try the Musikverein.
