Compact Dictionary: German-English

Can anyone recommend a compact German-English dictionary or phrase book that they have used?

I have a Langenscheidt that is 3 1/4' x 4 1/2'. IIt has +/- 36,000 words. It seems to do the job.

where are you, globe-trotter?

I just walked into my local WH Smith and bought one off the shelf - a berlitz german pocket dictionary for £2.99.

it's perfectly serviceable and quite small. [no point in having a pocket dictionary that's too big or heavy as you won't take it with you, which defeats the object.]

Langenscheidt is a well-known german make - i have the larger standard german dictionary, but if you are at the stage of wanting a phrase book, it's probably more than yo want.

collins and cassells are also good if you can find them, perhaps 2nd hand on e-bay or amazon.

good luck!

For paper version, I like the Insight Travel Dictionary: http://www.amazon.com/Travel-Diction...8213672&sr=8-1

However, when I have a smartphone with me, I use an ap version of a dictionary. For example, for an Android phone, you can get free Xynotec DictDroid offline German-English dictionary from the Android Market.
