Comments re itinerary Prague to Dubrovnik in 1 month
 

Hi fellow travellers...would appreciate comments on this itinerary. Would prefer to take trains/ferrys and take one month to travel...
Start Prague - vienna - lake bled - Zagreb - Rovinj - Pula - Zadar - Split - Hva - Korcula - Dubrovnik. Would appreciate suggestions of smaller walkable places to stay, prefer more small picturesque places than big cities....

11 destinations, 30 days. That gives you at least two full days in each place.

Doable, and might even be something that I would do. Not ideal but doable.

The constant moving about might get old quick though. But for me it would not be that big of a concern.

Will probably narrow it down, will want to spend more than 2 nights in the bigger cities,,ie Dubrovnik, Prague and Vienna...

Don't forget to exclude your arrival/departure days.

Pula is an easy day trip from Rovinj.

When are you going? If not in high season, check the schedule for Croatia ferries Split - Hvar - Korcula - Dubrovnik, and see what's available.

We loved Penzion Mayer in Lake Bled, try to have dinner there, too.

Well, you could skip Zagreb. Split is a biggish city but you could stay in Trogir, a bus ride away. Dubrovnik is a small town, but there are daytrips you can do from there. I think you have to go to Ljubljana for transportation reasons, but it's a nice small city. I didn't like Pula that much.

However, Pula does have an airport as does Rijeka and Split. The train doesn't go south of Split so not to Dubrovnik. I think you will have to look into cheap flights as well as buses to supplement trains and ferries. And read the ferry schedules very carefully. A ferry can get you from Pula to Zadar, from Split to Hvar to Korcula to Dubrovnik. But you'll probably have to adjust your itinerary to fit the ferry days and times.

Fast travel through Croatia kind of misses the point. It's a wonderful place just to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

I'm not sure what it is that you want to see in these cities, but 2 nights really means one day (with maybe just a bit of a day on either side, once you count travel time. Dubrovnik isn't that big, so maybe 2 nights - MAYBE -- might work there. But Prague easily merits 4 or 5 days. Vienna easily merits 5 days or a week. Zagreb 2 or 3 days. And yes, I'm talking about days, not nights and not time for transportation. Of course it depends on what you want to see and experience, but that's what I'm not getting.

I'm one of the few Fodorites who doesn't mind changing hotels every night or two, but I at least try to allow enough time in any one location to do more than say I was there. It might help to get a good guidebook or two -- I thought the Rough Guide particularly useful for Croatia -- and lay out a plan based on the things within each destination that you want to visit.
