Comments on my Itinerary for S. Spain
My husband and I will be in Southern Spain for Seven nights. Which Itinerary sounds best?

1) 2 nights Sevilla, 1 night Cordoba, 2 nights Granda, 2 nights Costa del Sol.

2) Or could we spend 3 nights in Sevilla and just go to Cordoba for a day, so as not to have to keep switching hotel rooms?

3) Or should we skip Costa del Sol and spend 2 nights in Cordoba and one night in Gibraltar?

Please advise or make any other suggestions. We plan to have a car.
If you like the beach, like we do, you'll definitely want to get to the coast. The little towns east or west of Malaga are much more authentic and not as crowded. We like San Pedro de Alcantara to the west - a former fishing village. Marbella is lovely, but crowded. It's great to lie on the beach and see Africa across the Med on a clear day. Nerja east of Malaga is beautiful - "the balcony of Europe"- cliffs over the sea, but can be crowded too.

If you are travelling in a warm month, Costa del Sol will be beautiful and very crowded. If is a cool month, it will still be nice, but it becomes more a jumping point from where to take day trips. The first schedule sounds really good, more so if you are departing from the Malaga Airport. I wouldn't miss a day trip to Granada (The Alhambra!), the cathedral in Seville, Ronda, Gibraltar (a morning should be enough), and if you have a day for something really different, drive to Algeciras and buy a tour ticket to visit Tangier in Morocco (a day trip). Have the best time!

My husband and I were in Anadalucia beg. of June. We took the AVE train from Madrid to Sevilla. We rented a car right on the San Justa Train station in Sevilla for 9 days in Anadalucia. We toured Cordoba using Sevilla as our home base. The trip was about 1 1/2 hour. Not bad at all. We personally did not like Cordoba as much as Sevilla, or Granada (La Alhambra!!!) or even the town of Carmona, where we stayed. Actually, we stayed at an amazing, delightful small hotel in Carmona called Casa Palacio Casa de Carmona (www.casadecarmona.com). It was a dream! The town is a miniature of Sevilla, very quaint. From Sevilla, I would drive to Granada (2 1/2hrs), stop on the way and reach Granada late afternoon. Stay inside the Alhambra @ Parador San Francisco or Hotel America (both are mentioned in Karen Borwn's book). The Parador is breathtaking! Next day, I would tour the Alhambra and the Generalife gradens at a leaisure pace since you will be staying that night there too. The following morning drive to Costa del Sol. We stayed in Marbella, right on the water at the Coral Beach Hotel: worth every penny ($200.00). The pool and the beach club were perfect and Marbella was fun! Go to Puerto Banus for dinner one night and just walk around and enjoy the nice boats! If you have time, go visit Ronda one day: it will be a nice break from the beach scene. Enjoy Andalucia! Adios!
