comments on itinerary

My husband, 5 year old son and I are taking our first trip to Northern England, Wales and Scotland. Here's what I'm thinking as far as our itinerary.
Any comments or suggestions? Any ideas on semi-reasonable and kid-friendly places to stay? Any sights we should definitely make sure to see? Any help would be appreciated!

Day 1 Leave London to Warwick
Day 2 and 3 Warwick Castle and Mideival Festival
Day 4 Leave Warwick drive to Conwy in Wales
Day 4, 5 and 6 Explore Northern Wales
Day 6 leave Conwy for York
Day 6, 7 and 8 York and environs
Day 8 leave York for Edinburgh
Day 9, 10 and 11 Edinburgh and environs
Day 11 drive from Edinburgh to Oban
Day 11, 12 and 13 explore areas around Oban
Day 14 drive to Glascow
a couple days in Glascow and then home

You will be driving a lot but I've a few suggestions that keep you on your prescribed route:

Coventry for the new cathedral (Sir Basil Spence, architect, Jacob Epstein sculpture and Graham Sutherland tapestry) and the remains of the old cathedral destroyed in 1940. Very moving

Ironbridge (near Shrewsbury) on the way to Conwy spans the Severn river - birthplace of the industrial revolution

Caernarfon Castle (Prince of Wales invested here)

York - the National Rail Museum - your 5 yr old should enjoy it

Durham Cathedral - 900 yrs old and almost entirely Norman

Hadrians Wall

Stirling Castle on way to Oban

Remember keep to the left except when passing.

We had a wonderful time at the Warwick festival two years ago, but I couldn't see devoting two days to it.

Sorry, I don't recommend lodging and restaurants. It's too subjective and things can change too quickly for me to feel confident with recommendations.

We've used The Best Bed & Breakfast covering England, Scotland, Wales published by The Globe Pequot Press and been very satisfied with our choices.

You might also try the Auto Assn website
(http://www.theaa.com/) for suggestions and driving help.

Have a good trip.
