Comments on Honeymoon Itinerary
 

I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on the following itinerary for an Italian Honeymoon this June and July.

Day 1 -- Arrive Rome FCO in am. Rent car at FCO and stay at Park Hotel Villa Grazioli outside of Rome.

Day 2 -- Drive to Positanon (maybe stop at Pompeii) Stay at Le Sireneuse.

Days 3 and 4 -- Relax on Amalfi Coast. Possible day trips to Ravello and Capri.

Day 5 -- Drive to Singaluna. Stay at Locanda della Amarosa.

Day 6 -- Tour Southern Tuscay, maybe Montulcino and Montepulciano.

Day 7 -- Tour Siena and drive for Florence. Stay at Grand Hotel in Florence.

Days 8-9 -- Touring Florence

Day 10 -- Drive to Lucca and maybe Pisa. Drive that evening to Rome and return rental car. Stay at Hotel Eden.

Days 11-13 -- Tour Rome.

Please let me know of you think we are doing too much or any thoughts on our accomodations or the itinerary generally. Thanks.

Wow. What a wonderfully exciting and well thought out itinerary! How refreshing to see one I really like, even down to figuring out to stay close after your arrival rather than driving too far. The only thing that would make it a little nicer, in my opinion, is to be able to fly into Naples and out of Rome for a little less backtracking, but I suppose the flight issue makes this necessary. And it really isn't that much of a biggie!

Good plan.

My only suggestion would be to see if it would save you money to drop the car upon arrival in Florence and use the trains and buses for Lucca, Siena and Rome.

See www.trenitalia.com/en for train schedules and prices. I think Florence/Lucca RT was 20E and bus to Siena was 13E RT.

Patrick, Thanks for the encouraging words. It seemed natural to not go to far the first day, as we will be jet lagged, we are leaving the day after our wedding and driving on the Amalfi coast is supposed to be a challenege, even when fully rested!

I don't think you need the car at all until you get to Tuscany. It would be much easier on you to catch a flight to Naples and have the driver at the Sirenuse pick you up and drive you to the hotel. You would save the money spent on the Park Hotel Villa Grazioli and the car rental days on the Amalfi Coast. The Sirenuse is going to charge you around 30 Euro per day to park the car. You don't need a car in Positano. It is very easy to take a bus or hydrofoil to Ravello for a daytrip and the hydrofoil goes to Capri directly from Positano in the summer. At the end of your stay in Positano, take a ferry to Salerno, get on a train to Chiusi or Orvieto and pick up your car there. Drop it off in Florence since you don't need it to get to Lucca or Pisa and take the train to Rome.

You'll be able to sit back and enjoy the scenery as well.
