Colosseum, roman forum and palatine ticket and tour

Hi, we are planning to visit rome for 2days (3nights). For day 1 we have planned to visit colosseum roman forum n palatine hill and day 2 vatican city. I need to know that if i buy the colosseum ticket along with the third tier n underground tour from the official website, will that tour cover roman forum n palatine hill as well? Or we will have to buy a separate tour for roman forum n palatine hill? I am asking this because these three places are counted under one entity when we buy the ticket..
My second query is..should we buy tour for vatican also? Or it can be done without buying tour? I, however, have downloaded rick steve's audio guide in my phone ...
Also, we will have our 15month old with us ..so do we need to buy the tour for her also? Or she is gonna be free?
Are there any other things that we can do in these two days? We also have trevi fountain n spanish steps in mind ...

Last Fall we purchased tickets (through Viator) for an escorted tour. We started with a tour through the Forum, then up to Palatine and then on to the underground and 3rd tier of the Colosseum. The guide was fantastic. The tour took about 2 hours.

A guided tour of the Vatican is worthwhile if only for the fact that you would have a more timely entrance. Otherwise you may end up waiting in quite a long line.

From the Vatican you can easily walk to Castle Sant'Angelo in 10 minutes. We went in and up to the roof for a wonderful view of Rome's cityscape. You can then cross the bridge and head over to Piazza Navonna. Another short zigzag and you will be at the Pantheon.

From there you can continue on to the Trevi Fountain and then along to the Spanish Steps.

No, you will not have to buy a separate ticket. All Colosseum/Forum tickets are good for 2 entrances (over 2 consecutive days or same day) to each site. The Forum/Palatine count as one entrance and are accessed together and the Colosseum as one entrance. You can only enter each site once (can't visit the Colosseum twice on the ticket for example).

As for booking the tour/ticket directly with the site, your tour will only include the Colosseum. The Forum/Palatine part will be on your own. They do rent audio guides for the area (5€) which is for about 2 hours. They used to also have video guides you could rent (tablets), but I'm not sure they still do.

If you have your own phone/tablet, you can download off ITunes the Rick Steves guide for the Forum. You can also print the map to go with it off his website.

I'm sure there are other similar apps you can download. I used Rick Steves for Pompeii years ago on an IPod Touch. You would see a picture of the building/site (they are numbered in Pompeii) and then the details would play.

The official tour of the Colosseum Underground and Third Tier, which costs €9 per person, bought from coopculture.it/en/colosseo-e-shop.cfm , doesn't include a tour of the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill. In addition to the tour, you have to buy entry tickets to the Colosseum and those tickets include entry to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

The official tour sells out almost as soon as the tickets are released, so it's not easy to get them. There are private companies who have tours of the Underground and Third Tier, which cost far more than the official tour, but these usually do include the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

For day 2 we are gonna visit vatican city-museum, st.peter's basilica and sistine chapel, castel st angelo.
Where can i squeeze the following attractions:
Trevi fountain
Spanish steps
Borghese gardens

Where is your hotel?

If you have energy after the Colosseum/Forum, you can catch the tram (#8)at Piazza Venezia (just down from the Colosseum/Forum) to Trastevere. Get off 1st or 2nd stop after you cross the river.

You're already trying to cram a lot into two days.

Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps are near the Pantheon, so you could walk from one to the others after your visit to the Pantheon. Then, if you're not too tired, you can walk up the Spanish Steps, turn left through the piazza, and continue on the road (Via Trinità dei Monti, I think) until you come to an entry to the park on your right.

You've muddled the things you want to see in the Vatican area. Probably first you should see Castel Sant'Angelo, but I wouldn't go in, because you won't have time to see everything. Then, go to either St. Peter's Basilica or the Vatican Museums. The Sistine Chapel is inside the Vatican Museums. It's a good ten-minute walk between the two, around the outside of the Vatican Wall.

You should definitely buy your tickets to the Vatican Museums online at mv.vatican.va to avoid waiting hours in line. And if you don't like being crushed between thousands of people, I would suggest just skipping the Vatican to Museums /Sistine Chapel.

The Basilica usually has a long wait for security. The only way to avoid it is to go there before 9 AM, which would also give you extra time for the other things you want to see. If you do that, reserve the Vatican Museums for around 11 AM.

I'm usually too tired after a visit to the Vatican Museums to do anything else, but in theory, you could walk along the river from the Vatican to Trastevere. At a certain point, there's a division in the road. The right-hand side is Via della Lungara, which will take you right to the center of Trastevere. There is a fence between the two roads, so make sure you stay on the right.

After visiting Trastevere, cross the pedestrian bridge, Ponte Sisto, and continue straight on Via dei Pettinari until the street ends at Via dei Giubbonari. Turn left, and in a short distance, Campo de'Fiori will be on your right.

It would probably be late by then, and maybe you could eat in the Ghetto area. Turn back on Via dei Giubbonari, take it all the way to the end, at a little park. Go around the park and cross the street (Via Arenula). Either of the small streets opposite the park will take you into the heart of the Ghetto. The one to the left, with your back to the park, is where all the restaurants are. If instead you want to see the Great Synagogue, turn right on Via Arenula, and turn left when you get to the river. The Synagogue can't be visited unless you go to the museum, but I don't think you'd possibly have time for that.

You could vary this by crossing the bridge south of Ponte Sisto (Ponte Garibaldi?) after visiting Trastevere. Then you would turn right to see the Great Synagogue. Go around the far side of the Synagogue, keeping always to your left, and follow Via del Portico d'Ottavia to the end, at Via Arenula, facing the little park I mentioned above. Go around the park and follow Via dei Giubbonari to Campo de'Fiori.

I wouldn't have the stamina for all this in one day.

Jewish ghetto
Trasvetsere
Campo di fiori

These three you could group together as they are fairly close to each other. Campo is about a 5 minute walk from Piazza Navona. You could continue on to the Jewish ghetto from there. The tram stop, Arenula/Carioli to Trasevere is between the two.

Trevi fountain
Spanish steps
Borghese gardens

From your hotel, the Trevi fountain is a few blocks. Then head to the Spanish Steps. The Borghese is above the Spanish Steps. You can access from the top of the Spanish Steps or you can go in the metro (beside the bottom) and there are a series of escalators that will come out halfway up.

I didn't see the Pantheon on your list. Be sure to include it. It's only a few minutes walk from Piazza Navona.
