Colosseum Night Tour
I came across this a few months ago, when I began planning my trip, but I am having a hard time finding any information. I have been scouring Pierecci, where I plan to book the offical guided tour for the colosseum, however my best friend and I agreed that we would much rather do the after dark tour. Does anyone know if they plan to offer that again? I read on Pierreci (Deciphering the Italian, as there was no info on it in english lol) they had a "La Luna Sul Colosseo" but that was 2009! If you guys have heard anything, will you please let me know?
Side note, we will arrive in Rome late September, and I understand we can book Colosseo tickets about 6 mths in advance, if I book a tour w/Pierecci / omniticket, and they re-open the underground, I wonder if we would be able to upgrade?? I suppose I should email those sites directly for that answer! lol
Thanks!
Julie

The last few years, the city of Rome has arranged a night event at a few select sites. It's usually during late summer/early Sept. The sites I recall being open were the Colosseum and the Capitoline Museum. It was not the underground tour of the Colosseum, just regular entrance. I believe there was one other site (maybe Castel San'Angelo)and each had one certain night they were open late each week.
The past two years the Vatican Museums have also offered a late night open (Friday night).
AFAIK - Underground Colosseum tours aren't currently offered.

FYI, our friends at Google will translate stuff for you, although they do miss a few words.
http://translate.google.com
Just copy the text you want to translate into the left box and English appears in the right box. They even figure out what language the original text is in.

Thanks Guys!
AJPeabody: My Italian I would say is intermediate Im just shy about using it! I definitely hook up with Google when I come across those difficult words!
KYBourbon: Thanks for the info, with that knowledge, I am going to start researching events sponsored by the city, on the off chance we stumble on something really special. It didnt cross my mind to do that, although I am always checking out local events on my cities webpage

Hey Guys!! Just an update (some of you probably already know this!!) But they just announced on May 4th-ish that they are going to offer night tours of the Colosseo this year!!!!!!!
Thursday's and Saturday's from now until October 6th, 2012. There is a 45-60 minute regular tour and a 70-90 minute tour that includes the dungeons!
I tried calling Pierreci at the number listed on their info page... http://www.pierreci.it/home-page/en/...ti-flavie.aspx ... but there was all sorts of mayhem on both sides of the line - my mediocre and very shy Italian skills were no match for an irriated and no parlo inglese gumpy man Luckily booking our dream apartment in Rome was MUCH easier... Thank you, Alessandro <3
So, after he hung up on me after yelling something, I ate the 5 Euro extra and booked the long tour with the dungeon on tickitaly for 25 Euro each lol... I thought that was a dang good price! http://www.tickitaly.com/tours/colos...night-tour.php ... Anyway, I'm super excited!! Just waiting to hear back that our reservation is accepted and confirmed
