Colmar or Strasbourg?
 

We've been reading the guidebooks, examining the brochures and googling like crazy. It's time to come to the experts.

It looks like we'll have 2 nights, possibly 3 in this region. It's difficult to decide where to stay or should we stay a night in each, although I'm leaning for 2 consecutive nights.

I value your suggestions, opinions please let them fly :)

I picked Strasbourg and was glad I did. Click on my name for the TR.

If I had to pick one, I'd pick Strasbourg.

Hopefully you'll visit some of the nearby towns, too, like Kaysersberg or Riquewihr...

Strasbourg is far bigger and along with canals and a very historic centre has some fine WW1 buildings hidden away.

Colmar has some fine old buildings and is the centre of the local wine industry.

If you are going in the summer I'd stay up on the Ballon d'alsace one night, spend a day touring the wine road and visiting Colmar and stay the other two nights in Strasbourg. If in winter just strasbourg

Actually, if it is summer you could also fit in a visit to the concentration camp and the old castle on the Vosges

Strasbourg has much more to see and do - although Colmar has a great museum and a cute old town. We stayed 5 nights in Strasbourg - 2 days there, one in Colmar and on in the wine villages.

It would be Strasbourg for me. This does not stop you from taking a commuter train for a day to see Colmar or a variety of other worthwhile Alsatian sights.

I also would stay in Strasbourg. A day trip from there to Colmar is very easy to be done.

Well, I would pick Nancy over either of them, but of your two options, another vote for Strasbourg.

Another vote for Strasbourg. I am eager to spend more time there.

I'm very eager to spend time there now! Thank you to everyone. It's funny, that with all the tools now available to us it doesn't really make decisions easier.
