College Students wanting to Tour Italy
I am currently studying abroad in the U.K and some friends and I want to go to Italy during our reading break. We want to go to Milan, Venice, Florence, Pisa, and Rome. We have from the 26th October to the 4th of November.
How many days do you suggest we spend in each city? Do you know any CHEAP places where we could stay? Should we take a train or bus to each city? What do you suggest we do on a low budget? Any recommendations in general?? Thanx! |
5 cities in 10 days is an extremely ambitious itinerary. That only allows 2 days each place. My suggestion would be to skip do just Venice, Florence, Rome instead (Pisa as a quick stop from the train).
I would take the train around, they are easy to use in Italy, and bring you into central parts of each city. For advice on low budget travel check-out The Thorn Tree forum, western europe branch over at www.lonelyplanet.com |
oops, skip Milan

Hi G,
I think that that is much too much. With 10 days, I would limit my itinerary to no more than Venice, Florence and Rome, and even that is a bit rushed. Italy will be there for your next visit. What draws you to Milan and Pisa? ((I)) |
We have friends in Milan and we want to see the leaning tower in Pisa.

With that itinerary you'll see not much but a lot of train stations - and countryside going pst outside the train window.
You can do what ever you want - but less than 3 days in Rome or 2 in Venice or Florence i just silly. If you want to see friends in Milan - then do Milan, Venice and Florence (Pisa is about a 30 minute train ride and you can see the tower in a morning). You should stay in hostels (lonelyplanet has been reco'd and will have that info) and double check the Italian train site (trenitalia) for student discount fares. (I assume you have a discount flight from UK to Milan - and from wherever back). |
Hi G,
>We have friends in Milan and we want to see the leaning tower in Pisa.< OK. I would fly into Milan, see the friends (2 nights); head for Florence - 3 nights (see Pisa and Siena as daytrips); train to Rome - 4 nights(daytrip to Orvieto); fly home. ((I)) |
