College Graduation Trip
I am finally going to graduate from college. My husband and I are thinking about taking a 7-9 day trip to Europe mid-May 2008. I want to go to London, Paris, and Rome. Is is practical to cover this much area in such a short amount of time? What would be a good itinerary? I have been to London before, but my husband has not. Also, my husband is in the Air Force and I was wondering if any places have military discounts. One last question, what would you estimate a 7-9 day trip would cost, not including airfare?
Thanks for the help! |
Though i think most here will advise cutting Rome or cutting London or Paris
you could do it 3 days London Eurostar train to paris 3 days overnight train to Rome 3 days fly back from Rome |
Check out flights from Ryanair. The airports are usually a little outside the city, but have cheap flights. You could fly from London to Paris and then Paris to rome. Another way to do it would be to take an overnight train from Paris to Rome. Leave Paris at night and wake up in the morning in Rome. I have done it before and it is very nice. I have travled by train to 5 different countries in 10 days before, so you could do 3 in 9 days.

I'll be one of the "most" who advise you cut one destination, especially if this is really a 7-day trip. My choice for elimination would be London.
I'll think you'll enjoy yourselves much more if you slow down. |
pebble831,
Are you talking about 7-9 FULL days, ie excluding the days when you arrive/depart? If 9 FULL days, 3 cities are doable. If less than that, I think you're better off dropping one. My tip would be to do an open-jaw, ie fly into one city and fly out of another. Assume you're flying from N.America, there are more flights to London and Paris so these cities make good gateways. Between London-Paris is best travelled on Eurostar, book early and check to see if roundtrip fare is less expensive. You just add Rome from either city. |
