COBH to BUNRATTY TRAIN?

Hi everyone. I will be disembarking a cruise ship in Cobh, Ireland in May. I would like to travel to see the Bunratty Castle and folk park and spend the night there before moving on. Can anyone tell me whether I can get a bus or train from Cobh to Bunratty and where it is and which would be fastest. Would appreciate the help!

You need to get the Train from Cobh to Cork, change for the train to Limerick and you can Bus or taxi from Limerick to Bunratty.
Of course it depends where you are aiming to move on to? whether Bunratty makes the best overnight location.

I have a couple of bed and breakfast suggestions for Bunratty if you are interested.

Hi ledhead,

If your cruise ends in Cobh, I wonder if your cruise line offers transportation directly from the ship to the airport. I do realize you are not asking about getting to the airport, but Bunratty is about 10 minutes from Shannon Airport.

If you take the cruise shuttle from Cobh to Shannon you could then take a very short taxi ride to Bunratty (or rent a car at Shannon for your travels around Ireland).

Ship transfers to the airport might be pricey. Certainly, the steps Tony2phones outlined above would be less expensive.

Just something to check out.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the advice. We are not staying in Ireland more then a couple of days as we want to travel to Norway and Amsterdam before going home. Think we will just take the train to Cork and catch a train to Bunratty for 2 nights. Good to know we can just fly out of Shannon airport only 10 minutes away. Thank you all!

If you have 2 nights then Ennis would get my vote over Bunratty which has very little going on, 2 villages combined with 3 bars a castle/folkpark and tour bus's.

Shannon has very few flights to mainland Europe. Ireland's real international airports are Dublin and Cork.

Amsterdam and Norway....that changes my recommendations.

If your cruise ends in Cobh, you might want to travel directly from the ship to Cork Airport. You can get a nonstop flight to Amsterdam from Cork. Visit Amsterdam and then onto Norway (you did not say which part, Bergen? Oslo? Trondheim? Norway is a BIG place). Then travel from Norway back to Ireland (Dublin or Cork would be easier but would probably involve a connection).

If we knew your complete itinerary we could offer more assistance as to the best way to fit in a short stopover in Ireland.

I do agree with Tony2phones that Ennis would be nicer for multiple nights. Much more to offer.
