Coat and Tie at Shelbourne and Adare Manor??

Father/son trip to Ireland for first time in May. Have booked Shelbourne in Dublin and Adare Manor for two nights each. Can we get by in nice sweater and slacks or do we need a coat and tie?? Thanks Fodorites.

Hi TT,

I googled Adare Manor.

As I expected, they prefer coat and tie for dinner, but won't throw you out in your nice sweater and slacks.

OTOH, how difficult is it to look like a mensch?

I was in the shelbourne bar last week and peeked into the restaurant. I don't think you will need a jacket and tie. Its a nice looking restaurant but all trpes of dress were worn. I don't thi9nk any place in dublin requires a jacket. Post a review when you get back.

Adare...I think you may need a jacket but check with the hotel as janisj mentioned above

Thanks Janis, Ira, and Siobhan!! We do not want to be under dressed, but do want to travel light.

Hi TT,

>We do not want to be under dressed, but do want to travel light.

Here's a tip from a seasoned traveler:

Put tie in pocket of jacket.
Wear jacket onto plane.
Take jacket off while on plane.
Put jacket ba ck on when exiting plane.

Takes no space in your suitcase.

Enjoy your visit.
