Coastal Italian town with 4 year old? Or, an agritourismo experience?
 

Hi, I am in Florence, Italy with my husband and 4 year old daughter for 5 weeks. We'd like to spend a couple of days at the coast, or perhaps in the country for a change of pace. Our daughter is very well behaved and loves most everything! We don't have a car, so we'll need to rely on public transportation to get anywhere.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking about 4 days (flexible) in September.

Accommodations budget is $150/night or so. Does not need to be fancy, but clean and in a good location would be great!

Just curious. Is there's reason you are spending 5 weeks in Florence? With that much time, why not do both?

Agriturismi are, by definition, not located IN cities, so it would take some combination of public and private transportation to reach just about any property. You might be able to find a place that would be willing/able to pick you up at a train or bus station, but without a car you'll be limited in dining and food shopping options to whatever is within walking distance.

If you're not necessarily looking for the whole farm stay experience, consider an apartment or small B&B just outside the center of a town that's served by public transportation.

travelmama- we are spending the five weeks hoping to experience a longer stay than a "vacation", to really feel like we have a chance to settle in. I don't think we can do both- we have rented an apartment here (prepaid) and don't have the budget to spend money casually, but if it is possible to do each of these experiences for only two or three nights, I'd be willing to stretch. On the other hand, I prefer not to move around a ton- its hard with a little one!

It is quite easy to get to Cinque Terre from Florence by train. The issue would be finding accommodations at this point. It would be a nice 3-day stay.
