For the past 30 years, "London stations closed through bomb threats" has rarely made it even to the local news bulletins. However irritating, it's been a depressingly common event.
What's changed is CNNs sense of news values, not the constant terrorist threat that many European cities have lived through for most of our lives.

Hi ...
I must agree with FLANNERUK .... this has been going on for ages in UK and elsewhere in Europe. It would be lucky to get a mention on CNN or any American TV network.
Because terrorism has now happened on American soil, stuff like that is seen as newsworthy.

The stations were closed apparently because of a threat. Re-opened in short order. A post by a person in Paris now said it was hardly mentioned in the Paris papers and again a case of the media blowing things out of proportion--(as flanneruk said).

I have been in London where I was ordered out of a department store because of a bomb threat. And I have been in Switzerland at an airport which was emptied of people because of a bomb threat. Those both occations happened more than ten years ago, so it really isn't anything new or typical to just this day.

<<I find it somewhat disheartening that terrorists have been operating in Europe for over thirty years and the response is, "oh well".>>
What other response to a threat would be better? Isn't "oh well" a great expression of NOT being "terrorized"? Threatening terror coesn't work if no one is scared, does it? Have train stations in Europe (the continent of Europe) been bombed in the past thirty years that I haven't heard about? (This is not to make light of actual violent acts that HAVE been committed in/at train stations in GB and Ireland; flanneruk has already indicated how common the "threats" have been, and of course, actual violence has tragically occurred over the conflicts there).
The closure of a train station by the police, investigating - - learning how to do their jobs better - - and the subsequent clearance of the closure is not a cause for fear, and barely rates the term newsworthy.
Best wishes,
Rex

Do we know if they reported it on (US) broadcast<?I> CNN? I think that like other newswire services, the CNN internet service is "filled" on an as needed basis with lots of stories that have regional world interest. They pick them up from services around the world, or reporters who staff their own bureaus (I don't know where they have bureaus in Europe).
This is just my speculating/guessing at how stories appear on cnn.com - - I know that when I think there might be a story that is europe based I go to the europe page of cnn.com - - fully expecting that there will be stories there that I might not encounter elsewhere.

Sadly, the terrorists succeed when they sow dissension among nations and people who should otherwise be allies, as evidenced in this thread. Each country - as well as its press - will respond to terror as best suits its own interests, and at times those interests will clash. Nonetheless, we should never lose sight of the fact that the real enemy is not one another, but the terrorists themselves.

"This has been going on all these years and they haven't done anything to squash it at its source?"
Well, the Red Brigades were crushed, the Bader-Meinhoff group was crushed, the 17th October (or was it December?) group was crushed, and even IRA has been quiet lately, so I would not say that "they" have done nothing.
