Clueless NYC couple in Paris.
 

NYC couple staying in the San Germain des Pres area in a hotel called Aubusson.
We are frequent travelers to Italy and Spain but this will only be our second time in Paris. The first time was over 10 years ago.
Wife is turning 40 while we're there.

We're looking for restaurant recommendations to span the spectrum.

We will certainly appreciate some high end dinners, but not every meal should cost €300+ in this economy.
We're having lunch at Taillevent one day after doing some vineyard tours and we do intend to drink some great wines.

Can you help?

Also, any thoughts on a day trip to Deauville? We'll be there at the end of April.

A Parisian friend and I did Monet's House in Giverny, Honfleur (great) for lunch at a very quaint seafood restaurant that she frequents, and Deauville and Trouville on the same day.

We just left Paris early in the morning and she drove. It was a GREAT day. I'd do it again. I especially liked Honfleur. Deauville and Trouville were also very nice. It was really nice to see the ocean/sea and especially being from California. Smiles. We went there at the end of the day and then had whole wheat crepes and apple cider at a restaurant that she knows quite well. Happy Travels!

We stay near the Aubusson all the time. A few mid price restaurants right in that area are Le Christine and Chez Fernand on rue Christine, Le Reminet on rue Grand degres, Bistrot de Paris on rue de Lille, Le Petit Pontoise and Pre Verre. Sorry I can't remember their addresses but you can google them . All of the above are excellent

There is a very good crepes stand at the Eglise St Germaine des Pres.

From one New Yorker to another:

Do the day trip to Trouville/Deauville! There is fabulous seafood in those towns and the scenery is beautiful.

I would add Chez Denise to your restaurant list; closed weekends. 5 rue Prouvaires just south of Les Halles market. A quintessential bistro. Wonderful food; lots of locals; reasonable prices on food and wine.

I love Le Tastevin on the Ile St. Louis--very romantic atmosphere, small, owner-managed, prices are mid-range, set menus starting at 25 euros up to 50 or so. 46 rue St. Louis en L'Ile www.letastevin-paris.com If you go, the owner may remember Madame Hayward and if so, give her my best regards.

ciaony - On a really nice evening stroll along rue Dauphine from your hotel to Pont Neuf and carry on walking to number 1 Pont Neuf. This is restaurant & Bar KONG with it's glass roof. Have a sundowner while admiring the view over the Seine. Then retrace your steps to Place Dauphine and enjoy dinner on the sidewalk (terrace) at any one of these three restaurants often mentioned:

Le Caveau du Palais
La Rose de France
Paul

Place Dauphine is described as one of the prettiest squares in Paris and of course is very ancient, having been laid out in 1607 by Henri 1V and was named after the Dauphine, the future Louis X111. Number 14 is one of the few building to have avoided any subsequent renovation.

After dinner maybe go down the steps to Square du Vert Galant and take a evening boat ride up to the Eiffel Tower and back, before wending your way back home.

La Rotisserie D'en Face (sp?) Restaurant is also in the rue Christine. Rue Christine is a short street. You'll be in a great area. I've stayed in this area, almost annually , since 1981. There's a lot of choice. And of course there's the famous Allard Bistro a short walk away, right off of rue St.Andres des Arts on rue L'Eperon. Happy Travels!

If you need transportation, as in not renting a car, this guy drives folks places. I met him last spring. He also works for an airport shuttle company and picked me up at my rented apartment, in the 6th, and drove me to the airport. He's from New Mexico, is totally laid back, flexible, speaks fluent French and some other languages and is quite delightful to chat with. Happy Travels!
