We will be cruising mid-October from Barcelona, going to Nice, Rome, Corsica, Malaga and the Azores..What will the weather likely to be... fall like, late summer or what.. I know I won't be wearing shorts or dungarees...and don't tell me layers...I don't want to dress completely like a tourist, but need to be comfortable. Do I need long sleeves or short sleeves...slacks or cropped pants?

There are weather websites you can go to and check historical monthly temps. That might give you a start for the various places you mention.

I'm not sure your objection to "layers" people often mention that because it is the best way to be able to adapt to temp changes, during your trip or during a single day.

I would think nice pants outfits would serve you well (look at TravelSmith for ideas). They are comfortable and stylish both.

Well,it will probably be cooler on the water, so you'll want to have a few light windproof layers.

I remember Italy in mid-October as being comfortable long-sleeve weather. At some times during the day, I could have worn short sleeves (but long was never too hot), and I wanted a lightweight jacket or windbreaker at night.

I'm a fan of twin sets for travel in almost all seasons (because sometimes it's boiling hot in an overheated theatre in winter, of freezing cold due to air-conditioning in summer). You can peel a layer off if you're outside in direct warm sunlight (or in a London theatre in January), wear both layers on normal days, wear the cardigan over a sundress, etc.

Also, it never hurts to bring along a pashmina. They don't take up much space, they're great for the plane (I don't let those airline blankets anywhere near my face) and if you suddenly face a cold snap, you can wrap in the pashmina to keep yourself warm.

the best thing you can do is check the suggested historical information, check the forecasts for some of your stops just before you leave, and then, as is usually the case with weather forecasts, plan for alternatives anyway

Since you mention cruising are there dress requirements for the ship?

I would think you could easily use one of each item you mentioned: long sleeve, short sleeve, slacks, and capris.

Thanks...think I'll use long sleeved blouses with tanks or shells underneath. I'm not the pashima type...lol. The reason I was asking now is that I want to start shopping and picking up items as the summer/fall comes on.....that;s if we ever get rid of winter here.

My Lady Wife has a wool cloak that she swears by for colder weather.

One night in Naples, she had left it at the hotel. I had to go to a souvenier stand and get her a "Go Naples" banner to put over her shoulders.

Even a light pashmina will work wonders.
