Clothing Advice--Rome, Positano, Capri
We're leaving in a few days. Any suggestions on what to bring for Positano and Capri? I'm assuming what people wear in summer is more casual than in other places. Are shorts OK during the day? Capris at dinner?

In all three places slobs dress like slobs, fashionistas like fashionistas, and the rest of us like the rest of us. Enjoy your trip!

Exactly, Pausanias!
In Rome the dress will not be so casual if you are in tune to such ideas. |
In europe local adults don;t wear shorts in cities -only in resorts or while actually doing athletic activites. If wearing shorts (or with bare shoulder/upper arms) adults will not be admitted to Saint Peters/Vatican - and may or may be admitted (or harangued by locals) in other churches. (Shorts are considered children;s wear and disrespectul in church.)
You can wear shorts in cafes/casuale trattorias - but better restaurants will frown on them - as they would in the US. |
Prada for Positano. Cavalli for Capri. I hope you are staying at Quisisana, sweetie darling.

We live in a tourist destination in the western US. At dinner a few nights ago there was an Italian mother and her teenage boy. Both were dressed kind of sloppy. Shorts, t shirts with logos, flip flops. Do you think they researched what Americans wear before they came over? :)

SEGUE: Is Quisisana THE place to stay and is it worth the money?????? Are the basic rooms overlooking (gulp) the street okay? Are there any other hotels close but less expensive?? Or do we just bite the bullet....

soundness,
From what I've seen in the last few years, they definitely researched what Americans are wearing.(: |
They obviously did. ;-)
