Understand cannot wear shorts in churches.Question is, can you possibly carry jogging pants and slip them over shorts and enter churches?

Yes, no one minds what you do outside the church :)

I guess it begs the question of why not just wear long pants?

The thought of trucking jogging pants around on the off chance you'll visit a church just seems kinda silly to me.

I am sure you COULD do it...whether you really want to is another thing altogether.

If it is hot enough to be wearing shorts, aren't "jogging pants" going to be even hotter???

Why not just wear a lightweight pair of normal long pants in the first place?

plan on lightweight pants, but don't want to wear everyday.

OK where are you going to wear these shorts, and what sorts of shorts are they? Are you male or female?

If it is too hot to wear long pants - don't you think it will be too hot to wear long jogging pants??? And if it is that hot do you want to schlepp a change of clothes?

It's a church for heaven's sake(no pun intended) suck it up and wear pants or even a lt. weight cotton skirt if female.

How about children? Can they wear shorts to a church? I wouldn't want to torture them by dressing them in long pants in the summer.

Depends on their age...little children, yes ..almost teenagers no.

Dres is relaxed for children - but that mean under 12 or so - not a 15 ear old 6 footer.

And besides no shorts - you can;t show too much bosom - or midriff or upper arms/shoulders (if wearing a sundress you need a cover up).

Thank you. I guess, my daughter, who is 5, should be fine in a dress, and my son, who is 10, can wear shorts, that are not too short, like reacing the knees almost.

I'll never understand the extra effort some people will go through to avoid wearing long pants. Rome is not the beach, after all :(

What I guess I am asking, is how to dress as a male in July? Have to work in jeans in summer here in Tx.-wear shorts rest of time. We will be there 9 days and am trying to pack as light as possible.

My wife went to a women's college that required them to dress for dinner (yes, it was a while back). Almost everyone left a cotton skirt, elastic waist, or a wrap-around at the dining hall and popped it on over whatever else that they happened to be wearing at the time. It would probably be cooler than jogging pants.

My husband and sons always have "zip-off" pants that we use when travelling/sightseeing. We live overseas and I insist they wear the pants in the airport (even in summer) and then they zip off the lower parts once we hit Europe or the US. When sightseeing, they wear as shorts and zip-on the bottoms when necessary.

The OP didn't even mention what country we are talking about here. I haven't been in any country in Europe that had rules about this, except Italy, and I've seen lots of tourists in churches wearing shorts in countries outside Italy. I would imagine this is in reference to just going into a church to look around at the architecture, etc., during hours where no service is taking place.

Itlbl, Grcxx3's suggestion of zip off pants is the best. Leave your jeans at home and bring them instead. Not only do they solve the problem of covering up in church but they are also lighter weight (read cooler) to wear, take up less space and weight in your suitcase, and look nicer too. Considering the ages of your kids they will be fine in long shorts. Your wife however might find a knee length skirt the best option.

You really need some lightweight pants, is all. Not jeans they are too hot to wear and too heavy to pack. Get yourself some Dockers or linen slacks or whatever. Definitely take and plan to wear your shorts too... I'm guessing you won't be going in to churches everyday.

Christina, in the most visited churches in Spain they apply the same rules as in Italy.
