Clos Medicis or La Bourdonnais?

My husband and I will be in Paris in May and have narrowed our hotels down to either the Clos Medicis or La Bourdonnais. Can anyone offer any guidance. It is our first trip to Paris and one I've been looking forward to for 10 years. We want to make it the best experience we can! Also, we are using the French Experience for booking hotel, airfare, and transfers. Has anyone else used them? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Hello, Morgan!
My husband and I stayed at Le Clos Medici last May. We booked our hotel about 3-4 months in advance, and received an email confirmation. When we arrived, they said that their hotel was booked and that our reservation was cancelled. They then proceeded to book us at an "equivalent " hotel, but this hotel did not have air conditioning. Please do not stay here unless you really really have to.

My husband and I stayed at Clos Medicis last Sept. and absolutely loved it! It was our first trip to Paris, and we "settled" on that hotel because it was part of the France Vacations package offering, and therefore $1,400 less than if we did it on our own with the hotel we were looking at in St. Germain.

The staff is wonderful, the location is perfect - we walked everywhere - and the hotel is very charming. I WAS shocked at the room size, but only because it was my first experience with a European hotel. The bathrooms were beatiful tile and very large, and it had lots of closet space.

It has a sweet little breakfast room and a great courtyard and nice cozy lounge (small).

If we went back to Paris, I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

My family and I stayed here for five nights April/May 2002. It was a wonderful hotel. It was centrally located, close to many sights, the METRO and RER, restaurants, and shops. The staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and efficient. Our room was very clean. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Morgan's trip is over and done with (did they post a review or trip report?)...but in case anyone else is interested in info on La Bourdonnais...I have stayed at La Bourdonnais and was satisfied BUT I have opted not to stay there again. The good things: Location. Wonderful neighborhood. Some rooms have great views of the Eiffel Tower (we always asked for room 303). The rooms are larger than rooms in similarly priced hotels and you get "real" closets that can hold a lot of luggage. If you request two beds, you will probably get two double beds, instead of two twins. Service is fine.
The bad things: The decor needs updating badly. The color scheme is very bland and while not shabby, it's drab. Also, you MUST request and get a confirmation in WRITING of an Eiffel Tower view (street view) room. The non-street view rooms in the back can be cramped, noisy and stuffy.
