Climbing the Duomo at the Vatican

Does anybody know the best time to clime the Duomo at the Vatican in Rome? I won’t be seeing the museum, I saw it last time I was in Rome, but on this return trip I’d like to climb the Duomo. I will be in Rome late Friday October 27th and leaving Rome Sunday, October 29th. Is morning best or late afternoon? I was hoping to avoid a line to get to the top. Thanks.

I did it first thing in the morning (within 20 minutes of the doors opening), and both St Peter's and the dome itself were uncrowded.

We went in the mid-afternoon and the line was long. I'd try early morning if you can fit it in.

We did it as soon as the doors opened - we were one of the first ones up there and as far as being able to take photos without having to jockey for a good position, it was great.

Hi A,

I did it at the end of the day, about 4:30 pm and there was no line at all. Wonderful views of sunset up there too!

Buon viaggio!
