Climate in England in March ?

Can anyone give me any insight into the type of weather one can expect in England in March? I have been to London (during the summer)and would love to show my husband the sights. Right now, March looks like the most feasible month for a trip....would it be advisable to look further south? Thanks for your help!!

Hi Paula, my husband and I always (until this year) travel between March and early May. I have been in England several times in during the month of March and this has been my experience. Mostly mild weather with one or 2 warmish days. Be prepared for rain since you will most likely run into some. Your best bet is to dress in layers since it can be quite cold ,damp and chilly in the evenings. We happen to love this time for travel especially in the UK, since there are not many other tourists about and you get to have a lot of places by yourself. The UK is also great for early spring since, as opposed to Southern Italy for example, people don't visit there for the "beach/sun" weather anyway. Mostly it should be sunny, slightly brisk with a few days of on/off rain. Have a great trip.

Paula - the usual advice applies for the English weather as above. March could be anything from 5-15'C in London, poss 0-7'C at night. Be prepared for rain but snow would be rare, though sleet/snow showers (though no accumulations really) are possible. The other year we had 20'C in February (but I think you could count on that not happening again!). London should be fairly "tourist" free in March though the usual hotspots would still be busy - The Tower, Madame Tussauds and British Museum. You probably need to check when Easter is next year as obviously its busier then. The only disadvantage is that outside London alot of stately homes/gardens will be closed still, but all the "big" sights outside London and everywhere in town will be open. Alex

Again, my thanks! It doesn't sound like touring the city in March is out of the question as long as yu are pratically dressed and prepared for the elements! I look forward to it!
