Cliffs of Moher construction
 

Does anyone have an update on the construction project going on at the Cliffs? I'll be there next week and I'm wondering if the scenery is at all spoiled by the construction. Is there still a visitor center to stop while the new one is going up?

When I was there recently the existing Visitor Centre was still there (by the car park over the road from the cliffs) while the new one is being built.

Don't let the construction put you off going. The best plan (to avoid the construction and also the crowds) is to take a walk along the cliffs. Most people don't seem to venture further than the main viewpoint so that gets very busy but it's peaceful further away.

thank God i thought they were reconstructing the cliffs themselves!

Scenery intact! The part under construction is the path up TO the cliffs. They are putting in a visitor's centre.

Construction is supposed to be done by the end of the year and the new visitor centre is set to open Feb 2007.

Just saw the Cliffs of Moher in July 2006. It stays light late in July so we visited the Cliffs from around 6:15 pm til 8:00 pm. At that time the visitor's center closed at 8:00 pm so we just had time to use their toilet after our long walk along the Cliffs!

Yes your very first view of the Cliffs area is ruined by the construction. You walk up a hill from the visitor's center, then you turn left and walk along a wall. Most of the people seem to only get that far. But if you keep walking and walking, even past the end of the wall, it is gorgeous, Eventually you can't even see the construction area any more, if you walk far enough.

We were there for an hour and a half...we would have liked 2 hours but it was already 8:00 pm and we were starving for dinner...

I see you are going in summer too so remember it is still light at 8:00 pm. In fact when we left, there were some clever people who had brought picnic dinners to enjoy the sunset at the Cliffs! However don't forget the visitor's center closes at 8:00 pm. (In case you wanted any souveneirs or to use the toilet it would be closed after that.)

Enjoy! We went late in the day on purpose because in touristy areas anywhere on earth, we find mornings and late in the day to be the least crowded times. Generally in touristy areas the most crowded times are between 10:30 and 3:30 pm. (We live in San Diego which is very touristy in the summer.)

I was also at the Cliff's in July. The construction didn't bother us a bit. We arrived around 7:30 PM and there wasn't a crowd. In regard to everyones posts that say to take a futher walk to the left at the top, there are lots of no trespassing signs and also Private Property signs. Even a barrier, that we saw lots of people going around. Now where I come from I was taught to respect private property, I can't understand how all those tourist feel like it is there right to trespass or that the signs don't apply to them.

I was there last week (oh, that sounds good). the construction isn't too disruptive, but the path past the construction (where the sign says keep out private property) was definitely slippery and close to the edge. It is worth the trip.

This is one of my most anticipated sights to see...only 4 more weeks! Hopefully the construction around the area isn't too bad.
