Classical Music in Rome
I'm interested in attending a concert at night or sitting in on a noon-time performance at a Church. Had fun doing this in London and Paris.
Any rants or raves here? Would appreciate info on where I can learn more about his subject. |
I am actually a musician who just returned from playing in festivals in Rome & Prague. (They are summer festivals, though. Advertised in local papers & on websites.) I attended a great violin recital in Rome, held in a cloister designed by Bramante. I found the listing in my tourist magazine at the hotel. Look on some websites: enjoyrome.com , selectitaly.com , etc. Search the web for some sites/schedules. You could always ask your hotel for help, but, unless it's a really popular concert, you can usually buy tickets at the door. If you are travelling during the main season (Sept - May), you should be able to see some great stuff, and avoid any cheesy concerts mainly catered to tourists. Enjoy!

There are very good classical music concerts at LA CASINA DELLE CIVETTE A Villa Torlonia. Very beautiful atmosphere. Concerts are in the evening only and they run up to the end of Sept. YOu didnt mention when you will be in Rome though...
The ACCADEMIA DI SANTA CECILIA has a good and various program of musical events. And as far as I can remember there are some music events also at the TEATRO DELL'OPERA near VIa Torino. |
Thanks for the info.
Will be in Rome in late Oct and then again in Apr. Was hoping to catch a choir or some organ concerts when I explored the churches. |
I also like to go to concerts in churches. Best advice I can offer is to check "This Week in Rome" or whatever it's called, which you can get at any newsstand. The concerts will be listed there. Sometimes they are also listed on posters near the churches. But it's hard to find advance listings.

My husband plays classical guitar, and I am learning piano. Can you recommend any places where we could see free classical concerts in London and Paris in October? |

I am also interested in following some rock group history while in London and Paris, any suggestions? |
Donnae B: Tty this link for London concerts: http://lachlan.bluehaze.com.au/londo..._concerts.html As for Paris, there is a book called "Paris for free - or extremely cheap", which should have some tips. Don't have many connections in those cities, though, so I can't help out much more. As for rock group history, better do some searching on your own! (I only follow classical & jazz!) Have fun..! |
Thank you Amp, WOW, what a lot of information on the website!

The Accademia di Santa Cecilia, as Batuffolina said, has a good season and the new "auditorium" from Renzo Piano, where concerts take place, is a good reason to plan a visit.
The accademians play on Saturday afternoon, Monday and Tuesday evening. Chamber music on Friday evening. Program and on-line tickets on their web site : www.santacecilia.it In April there should be performances by pianist Maurizio Pollini, also. |
