Classical Concert tickets
I'd like to catch a performance in the Main Concert Hall (Grober Saal?) of the Musikverein. Preferably one with the Vienna Philharmonic. However, I heard that the tickets for these are sold out - is there any way to obtain standing room/rush tickets? Where, when + how early does one usually have to wait in line to get these?
Thanks! |
Hi, can't help you there, but I can tell you that I had standing-room tickets for the Staatsoper for 2 Euros. It was completely spontaneous and we walked by about half an hour before the performance. It was a ballet performance actually.
I'd also check with the concert hall when you get there. I know that the Philharmonic tickets sell out early, but there should always be returns. |
No idea how you can get tickets for the VPO, but there's a secondary orchestra there called "Vienna Mozart Orchestra" that has frequent all-Mozart concerts at the Musikverein Goldener Saal. It's totally tourist-oriented, with the members dressing in period costume. But not a bad way to experience the hall, starting at around 35 €.

When I was in Vienna several years ago, I wanted to go to a sold out performance at the Staatsoper. I called or faxed the concierge of the hotel where I was staying and when I arrived they told me that they secured to tickets (with great seats). Lesson - - ask the concierge as far in advance as you can.

I would most definitely endorse the idea of e-mailing the hotel/concierge and ask them if they arrange for the tickets. This has worked well for me in the past in several cities. Good luck.

The Musikverein has a web site at http://www.musikverein.at. You can order tickets online.
I took a quick look at the June schedule, and there are some Vienna Philharmonic concerts for which tickets are still available; other concerts by this orchestra are sold out. |
