Civitavecchia to Tuscan towns

I know Civitavecchia is a port, but I am asking about tours in general, rather than cruise-related. Is there any company where we may book a daytrip from Civitavecchia to a hilltown or two for the day? We don't want to have to form a group of 8 for a private tour. Is there a motorcoach company that does daytrips from Civitavecchia? The train has to go to Rome first, so we'd rather not go that way.

If you haven't already, you should ask your question on a cruise-related forum like Cruise Critic. There are lots of lovely Tuscan towns within reach of Civitavecchia, and also many in the province of Lazio itself.

There are of course trains from Civitavecchia to Tarquinia (medieval city, Etruscan tombs!) - Grosseto - Montepescali - Buonconvento - Siena....

We took a local bus to Tarquinia, where we visited the Etruscan ruins on our own. However, the directions as to where to get the bus were totally confusing, so ask at your hotel for what they recommend.

Thank you, all three , for your replies. Neckervd, Grosseto seems to be only a 49 minute train ride, without a change of trains, from Civitavecchia, so that may work for us. Does the train stop right in the center of Grosetto? We are seniors and don't mind a short walk, but do not want to rent a car.

Now I'm noticing that Tarquinia is only a 13 minute train ride from Civitavecchia. Does that train stop in the town center? Are the Etruscan ruins within walking distance of the train station in Tarquinia?

There are citybuses and taxis between the railway station down in the plain and the historic center on the hill.
The archeological museum offers free guided transport tho the tombs about every 2 hrs or so....

Thanks, neckervd for the Tarquinia info link. Perhaps we would do best to simply take the EUSEPI bus that goes, I am assuming, directly from a point in front of Civitavecchia port to the town center of Tarquinia? If so I am thinking the bus would be our best bet, requiring no change to go up to the town?
