Civita and surrounds in Umbria
 

Going to drive down from montefalco for day and wish to know of any surrounding sites / eateries etc worth a look at.

I haven't been there yet (have a reservation three weeks from now!) but lots of people here have raved about a restaurant called I Setti Consoli in Orvieto. Its not too far from Civita.

We loved Orvieto! We stayed there 3 nights and did day trips. It's a lovely and unique town with much to see and do:

Duomo - fabulous
Underground tour
Estruscan tombs
great shops
excellent restaurants and wine!

Get a very early start and plan to spend the whole morning and lunch in Orvieto. Drive down to Civita takes about 30 minutes, as I remember. You can spend a couple of hours there.

Be sure to take coins for the parking meters in the lot before the walkway!

dock, if you have a car, I can recommend Locanda Rosati, which is about 5-7 km from Orvieto. You get some beautiful views of Orvieto on the road to the city from Locanda Rosati. ((b))

Also if you have car is Hotel La Badia.

It is in a 12th Century abbey a few kilometers from Orvieto. Terrific restaurant on the premises, too. We stayed there in 2001 and loved it, and had some friends stay there last year. They enjoyed it, too.

Hi Budman we still have fond memories of our wonderful trip to Ireland last August which I could not have done without you advice. I have tried to e-mail Locanda Rosati twice, no reply. I thought it was a good choice, as it had a pool and at the end of a hot summers day it would likely be great for my boys.I hav ehad responses from Hotel Duomo and Corso, leaning towards Duomo, but would love to find something less generic.No response from Piccolomini? eitherThanks.

I forgot to mention La Badia has a pool, and even more imporatnt for me, a poolside bar.

Hi Dock,

We stayed at Palazzo Piccolomini and ready liked it. In a very quiet part of town. Easy to get from the parking structure, up the underground escalators and right to the hotel. It's at the opposite end of town from the train station and funicular. Good breakfasts, helpful staff. They even came down and picked us up with our luggage upon arrival. Our trip was 5 years ago, but unless something has really changed I recommend Piccolomini.
