Citroen C3 OK for Corsica?
 

Trying to use miles on Capitol One card for a car rental. We only have enough to rent a Citroen C3. It's a mini compact or economy (what do I know about the differences?) It's a manual with A/C.

Wondering if anyone has an opinion on if it would be suitable for our trip. Calvi for 4 days, then to the interior/mountainous area for 2-3 days and end up around Ajaccio for 4 days.

Just two of us with two pieces of luggage.

Yes, unless you are outside "normal" size so say over 6'2" and 16 stone I would turn it down as you are going to be uncomfortable. It also depends a bit on your normal driving style, if you like to go fast you will need to gun it a bit. The good news is you will be able to park it in just about space.

16 stone is 224 lbs

I drive a C3. It is very suitable for Corsica. However if you have a lot of luggage, the trunk is on the small side.

bilbo - If I ever get to be 224 pounds I had better go check my hormones. Additionally, my husband weighs about 60 lbs less than that. What is that in stones? Anyway, sounds like it will do for us.

As someone said you wil be ale to park everywhere, and parking can be right in some places.....
Did you settle on your itinerary yet? Looks like we may be going back to Corsica later in the year. Can't wait!

Yes, we have our itinerary. Not day to day, but areas. We land in Nice from NY. Spend 3 days there (never been). Then fly to Calvi possibly via Air Corsica (haven't booked it yet) and spend 4 days there. The into Corte for 2 nights, then to Ajaccio area for 4 days.

When will you be going?

I am 6'3 and 205 pounds and I fit in a C3 without any problem at all. Typically I get a C3 Diesel with a manual shift via Europe by Car. They are a car broker located in NYC, as am I. A Citroen C3 Diesel with manual shift and a/c and unlimited mileage costs about $250. This must be prepaid before departing for France. They are located on William Street in NYC. Yes, the Citroen is OK on the mountains. I live in the Pyrenees and drive there all the time. You won't be able drive fast on Corsican roads.

Kenav, we will possibly go early September if our friends house is not being used. Can't wait have missed it, it's been a couple of years!

The 1.6 Liter 75 HP HDI Diesel engine is imo one of the best cheaper ones that exist. Really nice, better than the 110 HP petrol version. Unfortuatly there's always the odd american tourist in front of you who's going dead slow. You end up going uphill in 2nd..... GRRRR

The smallest C3 Diesel is the 1.4 Liters, don't know about ist Performance...

logos - We're sometimes thought of as odd Americans. Don't know if that extends to my husband's driving skills though.

One thing about the C3 with AC. Given t will be a low powered version you may need to turn the AC off when climbing hills. It may turn itself off, but just be aware that there may be occasions when you can be cool, or you can move forward.

The C3 is not at all a mini compact by French standards. Compare to the C1 and you will see the difference!

I have never turned of the AC anywhere, whether in the mountains or on "steep streets in the cities" and I drive a lot in the Pyrenees!
