Cities near Munich
 

I will be flying into Munich in late September, renting a car and driving to Hof. After 15 hours of traveling I’m not sure I want to make the three hour drive straight from the airport. Hotel prices in Munich are very expensive because of Octoberfest. What is another close city to spend the night in that is on my way to Hof? Thanks

How about taking train from airport to Hof and resting on train and pick up rental car there?

Regensburg is approximately 55 miles from MUC; do you feel comfortable driving even that far? Hotel prices IN Munich may be up because of Oktoberfest but in my experience the hotels nearby aren't as pricey. Have you used something like Booking.com to search in the immediate area/even nearer the airport? There are all kinds of possibilities and the rates look pretty reasonable at the end of September.

Ingolstadt would be a great smaller town not far from MUC and on way to Hof.
