Circumvesuviana A/C

Strange question, but I am travelling to Sorrento from Rome in August and I was wondering if anyone knew if the Circumvesuviana trains were air conditioned.

kybourbon Jun 24th, 2004 10:06 AM

No they aren't but I was there last summer for the heat wave and we survived the Circumvesuviana.

Wow, thank you for the quick answer. I assume the SITA buses are a/c'd either.

ira Jun 24th, 2004 10:12 AM

Hi aim,

The SITA buses have AC.

GAC Jun 24th, 2004 10:23 AM

Do SITA buses have a/c?

Answer: it depends on the bus model. Some do and others don't. I don't know whether they operate exclusively the newer models on the Amalfi coast routes.

ira Jun 24th, 2004 10:32 AM

Hi GAC,

Last Oct, all of the SITA buses we were on had AC.

GAC Jun 24th, 2004 10:59 AM

IRA: that's great, because when I was there in May 2002, my two buses from Salerno to Cetara (and on to Amalfi) did not!

aimela Jun 24th, 2004 11:12 AM

thanks all... cooooool!

SeaUrchin Jun 24th, 2004 11:16 AM

aimela, maybe not so cool, the newer busses are a/c'ed but not the old ones, and you don't know what will show up.

For what it's worth, the Circumvesuviana will not get you from Sorrento to Rome. It will get you to Naples, where you transfer to the Ferrovie dello Stato (regular Italian) trains. The better ones -- all or most Inter City, all Eurostar trains --are air conditioned.

Not all buses on the Amalfi Coast are air conditioned. Most of those on the Salerno/Amalfi route have the old fashioned air nozzle system.

If you want ac from Rome to Sorrento you can take the Marozzi bus. It leaves from the Tiburtina station in Rome and goes to the train/bus station in Sorrento. There are only 2 departures each day so it might not work for your time schedule. The good things about taking the bus are ac,not having to make changes in Naples, not having to worry about schlepping/keeping track of your luggage, cheaper. The bad things about the bus are having to go to Tiburtina station to catch it and the crack of dawn or late afternoon departures.
