cinque terre or sorrento?

hi! i am deciding either to go to cinque terre or sorrento (pompeii, positano ,naples, capri)

which would you fodorites advice for a first timer to italy?

by the way i might consider going to the french riviera in lieu of cinque terre...in that case at least i would get a glimpse of the coast

thanks!

Hi al,

Ummmmmmmm, both the CT, the Sorrentine Peninsula and the AC are on the Coast.

When are you going?

What is the rest of the itinerary?

hi ira

what i actually meant was that if i were to choose among the 3 -french riviera, cinque terre or sorrento

which one would you choose? i'm just thinking of going to one or maybe two places if it really is worth it

i am still deciding if i am going to take the train or plane from Paris to Rome

if i do take the train then french riviera and cinque terre would be on the way to rome

but if i do take the plane i would fly into rome then sorrento and cinque terre would be my likely choices

can you give me advise on this?

thanks

How important is it to you to see Pompeii, Naples or Capri? (Go to Sorrento.)

How important is it to you to have a variety of hikes to take, stay within a budget and/or meet other people? (Cinque Terre)

How important is it to swim on sandy beaches and be part of a youthful fashion scene? (French Riviera)

Personally, I would choose going to Sorrento -- but I'm not taking this trip! (And I wouldn't go to any of them unless I was traveling between mid-April and mid-October.)

I've heard nothing but amazing things from people who have gone to Cinque Terre. I've never been to Pompeii and have heard mixed reviews on Naples.

"by the way i might consider going to the french riviera in lieu of cinque terre...in that case at least i would get a glimpse of the coast"

From the dozens of travelers I've talked to about that subject, I would recommend you go to Cinque Terra if those are your two options.

Hi al,

I'm partial to Sorrento and the AC.

You can fly from CDG to Naples.
