Cinque Terre or Almafi Coast

I'm in the early planning stages of a trip to Italy next May w/ my husband (we're 55 and 60 and travel quite a bit). We have ~15 days and would like to include one of these areas, but I don't think we can do both and give them each justice. Any comments or suggestions?

We plan to start in Rome and end in Lake Como. One option: Train from Rome to AC for 3 nights and then train up to Tuscany for about 5 nights, then off to Venice before Como.

The other option is to go from Rome to Tuscany and rent a car. Stay in Tuscany for 4 nights then drive up to CT for 2 nights. Drop the car in Genoa and then Train to Venice and Como.

This will be my husband's 1st trip and my 3rd.

Thanks for your input......KOL

Hi KOL - Cinque Terre or Amalfi?

No contest - the Amalfi Coast wins hands down!

Have a look :)

Hi K,

Since most of your trip is north of Rome, I suggest the CT for this visit.

I loved both...I think the CT would fit in better with your plans to keep your travel times down.

Thank you ira...I didn't know about that tiny url website.

I'd recommend Lucca and the Cinque Terre as most of your travelling will be north of Roma. Lucca is a beautiful town with lots to see and do and an easy train ride via La Spezia to the Cinque Terre which is magnificent. See my trip report www.xanga.com/urbino

I just went to CT and tuscany a couple of weeks ago. I highly recommend CT but I would dump the car before you get there. We stayed in Monterosso and used trains only between towns. It was beautiful. We went to the AC in January last year and we liked the CT much better but perhaps it was the time of year. . .
