Cinque Terre on Sun and Mon? Is everything closed?
Hello there,
Hubby and I are planning a trip to Cinque Terre and Piedmont at the end of May 2009. The way I have it planned is as follows: Sat - fly in Pisa from London (where we live), see the tower, then head to Cinque Terre Sun - Cinque Terre Mon - Cinque Terre Tues - Cinque Terre to SML Wed - SML Thurs - Drive to Piedmont Fri - Piedmont Sat - Piedmont Sun - Piedmont Mon - Fly home from Turin in the evening We plan to stay: Cinque Terre - either La Mala www.lamala.it or La Torretta www.torrettas.com SML - Hotel Jolanda http://www.hoteljolanda.it/ Piedmont - Villa Sampaguita www.villasampaguita.com 2 Questions: 1. We arent big hikers, but want to do the hikes in 5 Terre, sit and drink in the atmosphere and have fabulous meals. Will the villages be closed on the Sun and Mon? 2. I cant decide whether to stay at La Mala in Vernazza or La Torretta in Manarola....HELP...which would you choose???? Thank you so much! Jamie |
Topping...anyone?

Nice trip---I have stayed at Jolanda and Sampaguita---good choices. I do not think it makes a difference which days of the week. The weather that day does make a difference. We take the ferry and hop off/on at will. The coast is best seen from the water. La Mala gets good reviews but my legs would not like it. Here is a B&B in Monterosso that is new.

Will the villages be closed on the Sun and Mon?>
Are the stores at Disney World closed on Sun and Mondays? |
Silly me-where or what is SML?
|
Thank you so much!! I will check out that B&B as well!
Sorry, SML = Santa Margherita Ligure |
We were staying in SML on a Saturday - Wednesday and hiked Cinque Terre on Monday and Tuesday. We did not notice any closings. We liked Vernazza more than Manarola, although by train they are all so close you can visit any of them easily or pop over for dinner or lunch any time. Monterosso has a lemon festival in May (it was mid-May this year) so that might be something to check into.
We are in great shape and definitely had sore calves after hiking Monterosso to Corniglia in one afternoon, but the views are worth it! Its supposed to be easier if you go the other way (C to M) but I don't know how - there were lots of stairs in both directions. |
Hi, jamikins -
The trails should be open, unless bad weather forces their closure. I had a lovely time at La Toretta a few years ago. Hope that helps! |
