Cinque Terre in late May; our second trip

Spending two weeks in Italy mid-late May and considering the Cinque Terre for last week.
Input on weather then appreciated. We spent
three days in late Sept 1995, hiked the 5 towns, stayed in Vernazza. Thinking of Monterosso as a base because its a larger town. We also travelled further up the coast
the following year based in Sta. Margherita.
Any comments on Monterosso as a base vs Levanto ,which we have not visited. Otherwise thinking of the Amalfi coast which we also visited during an unseasonably cold November
so hiking was limited. Any thought on hiking the Amalfi coast vs Cinqueterre?

Rex; what does that mean?

First of all Rex is topping your thread. Since you posted last night and it had received no answeres it would have disappeared to page 3 and gone unnoticed.
I can't help you with the Amalfi hiking question as we have not visited. I can tell you that we were in the Cinque Terre last May (26-30) and it was quite warm. High 80's.
Hopefully you can get some insight from others.

We were there in late May. The weather was perfect for hiking, clear and moderate, a little humid. One HUGE thunder storm in the middle of the night, but over by the AM. I am one of the Levanto "fans" on this forum; in my experience, it was a good base for this area of the coast. Lots of dining options, not as crowded as the actual Cinque Terre towns, pretty architecture and setting, nice people and minutes by train to the CT. I would definitely stay there again.

A friend and I chose Monterosso last fall specifically for the sandy beach, and we enjoyed it. We decided, though, that if we returned we would stay at another of the five towns, probably Vernazza. I'd suggest searching this forum, however, for the discussions about towns just north and south of the CT - there is some excellent information ("Cinque Terre Base"). Cheers, Linda
