Cinque Terre Card
Hello fellow travelers. In the past when I went to Cinque Terre they just had one CT Card, which was good for both the trains/bus and trails. Now I see they have 2 versions of the card. It appears the Train Card includes the trail too or do I need to buy a Trekking Card as well for the trails? It would be pretty pricey to need to both so I'm thinking the Train Card will cover both? Can someone please confirm for me. Thank you! Ciao.

"It would be pretty pricey to need to both so I'm thinking the Train Card will cover both?"
That's how I interpret it, but I haven't been to the CT in several years. https://www.cinqueterre.eu.com/en/cinque-terre-card |
I just found a different website that is easier to understand and the Treno card does give access to the 2 hikes that they charge for so I am good to go. Thank you!

When did they start charging to go on the trails?? When we last visited about 3 decades ago - the only guy charging was actually peddling his grappa along one of the trails!!
They've been charging for at least 25 years . . . |
I have another question related to the use of the CT Treno Card. Once you have the card, is that considered your train ticket? Do you just show up on the track and board with the Treno Card? Or do you need to still get an actual ticket and get that validated before boarding? If so, how do you get an actual ticket?

Koutence, can you answer these questions then please. Once you have the card, is that considered your train ticket? Do you just show up on the track and board with the Treno Card? How do you get that validated before boarding? Is there an app to check in on? Thanks.

The English version isn't great, but I don't think you need to do anything except carry the card and ID when on the trains and trails.
"Do I have to validate the Cinque Terre Card? No, the Cinque Terre Cards purchased online (e-tickets) must not be validated. Cinque Terre Cards bought at the station (paper tickets) come with date of validity and do not have to be validated. Before using the paper version of the card, the users name must be written on the back. Cards must be shown to the controller on the trains or platforms together with a valid identity document. The card will also be checked at the check-points on the hiking trails. The card is valid until midnight on the last day of validity." https://www.cinqueterre.eu.com/en/ci...e-train-ticket |
Per this website, show it to the inspectors when asked:

Posting at same time as Jean, sorry!

OK, great. That's what I was thinking since it won't fit in the machines that you use to validate cards bought onsite. Thank you for the responses.
