Cinque Terre?
My husband, son and I are planning a trip to Rome in early June. We plan on spending 3 nights in Rome and then off to Cinque Terre for a couple nights. We would like to see Venice but will need to get back to Rome to fly home. Does anyone know how much time it will take us to be to Venice from CT or from Rome and about how much train tickets will cost? Would it be better to go to Rome and the CT? Also, can anyone recommend a clean/decent hotel where we can stay in Rome without spending a fortune?
Thanks......... Sheri |
I would do Rome and CT or Venice- not both. Venice is a long ass way form awywhere.

I agree with the previous poster...Venice is a lot further away from CT and Rome.

Rome to Venice is about 4.5 hours by train. 56 euros per person in standard 2nd class.
CT to Venice is at least 5.5 hours by train. 34 euros per person in standard 2nd class. BTW, you can check train timetables and fares at: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html I don't see much point in travelling that far without spending a minimum of three nights in Venice. You don't say how long your trip is. If it's only a week, drop Venice. "A clean/decent hotel ... in Rome without spending a fortune." How much is a fortune? What's your budget? Is your trip for June 2008? |
My favourite hotel in Rome is the 2* Hotel Suisse, between the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. Its small, well run and has the feeling of a private apartment. I always like to stay in rooms ovelooking the courtyard. See:
http://www.hotelsuisserome.com I agree with other comments about including Venice. Personally, I suggest that you visit just Rome and maybe have day trips to Ostia Antica, Pompeii, Tivoli or Frascati. |
Venice is about 6 hrs by train from CT so don't consider doing it unless you want to spend many hours on trains.
I would opt to do only one, either CT or Venice. There are numerious flights a day from Venice to Rome and vice versa |
have you been to Italy before? If not then IMO it is a must to visit Venice. While the Cinque Terre is interesting it does not come close to Venice.

I also recommend Hotel Suisse. It is quiet and comfortable. Get a room not on the street.
Breakfast will be brought to your room. |
