Hi everyone! Our trip to northern Italy is coming up in a few months (mid-May), and we’ll be taking the train from Santa Margherita Ligure to the Cinque Terre for a day. I’ve tried to discover if the trail from Riomaggiore to Manarola, the via dell’Amore, is open. Does anyone know? That one seems like the least stressful (and looks like the best one for someone who is not so great with heights). (me).

I’m thinking that if we take a morning train to the furthest town, walk a bit to the next one, then train to Monterosso, we can make a reservation for lunch at Miky’s. Can you tell me if we need to be well-dressed for lunch there? Obviously we’re coming after a hike, so that’s not gonna happen...

You sort of have to wait till the last minute to see what trails are open. We hiked Monterosso to Vernazza. Casual is fine for lunch, many hikers.

The Via dell'Amore has been closed for several years now because of the risk of landslides. You can see all the trails on this official trail map:

The Via dell'Amore is trail 592-1. You have to click on the trail to get a description, and then click on "further information" to see its current status.

We at at the Miky, and I doubt we were dressed up. Slacks and a shirt/blouse should be OK.

From that website, it looks like it’s still closed. “Itinerario Chiuso”. Well, maybe by the time we get there it will be open. Or we can trek on another section. Thanks!

Where we hiked was not scary, there were a couple sections you had to wait and do single file but it was not bad. I think the altitude and steps were hard. Take a couple of bottles of water.

Yes, as I said, it's been closed for several years. If it's open this summer, it will be big news.
