Ciampino airport (Rome)

I am prebooking our Terravision bus to Termini station. We land at 11:30, about how long should I leave for collecting baggage and all of that? There is a bus leaving at 12:30 or 13:10.

I forgot to mention we are using this same way to get back to Ciampino and I'm guessing we should catch the bus a little more than 3 hours before our flight since it's about a 40 min journey. Is that what you would suggest?

I guess ..it depends. Depends on where you are coming from and whether you have to clear immigration and whether your plane is late as well as your tolerance for risk. If it was me, I would go for the 13:10. We did this trek about 5 years ago and IIRC the bus was very late leaving Ciampino. You should be able to take the next bus anyway if you miss it at that hour, though , so relax...

On the return, three hours sounds about right to me if not in rush hours.

You really don't need to pre-book the shuttle bus into Rome from Ciampino. Just get your bags and go outside--the buses will be on your left. (The airport is quite small.) You can buy your tickets inside the terminal or, as we did, from the person standing right next to the bus. I believe the cost was 4 euros per person (one way). The ride into Termini Station takes about 45 minutes, depending on traffic.

On the way back, we decided to forgo the bus and take a cab instead. We were staying in an apartment near the Pantheon, so it was easy to grab a cab at the taxi stand there. There is a standard taxi rate from central Rome to Ciampino--I think it was 30 euros. It was a VERY quick and easy ride, past some of the areas we did not get to on this trip, so it was interesting.

There were four of us, plus luggage, and we all fit easily into the cab. In retrospect, we should have skipped the bus from the airport altogether and taken a taxi directly to our apartment, since it was actually more expensive to take the bus to Termini and then a cab from Termini to the Pantheon.

Don't bother booking - I was there a few months ago and there was a price war between the different coach companies

I agree with buying tickets directly here to avoid coach company issues, but I would go for the 13:10 bus to be safe. And definitely catch the bus that ensures you'll be at check in at least 2 hours in advance because I've noticed that even arriving 90 minutes early can be problematic. Good luck!

If there's 3 or more of you, it's just as cheap to get a taxi - 30 euro fixed price - confirm with the taxi driver before you get in so he know you're aware of the fixed rate.

Hey
I need your advice guys. I am at loss here..
I need to be a Ciampino airport no later then 4 30 or 5 at the most. I am traveling alone. My flight leaves at 6 45.
I checked for Terravision and they have a bus at 4 30 am and say it takes 40 min. But it's a very close cut and what if teh bus dosn't come or there is heavy traffic even so early?
I don't really want to stay at the airport for the night.
I will be staying next to the Train Station Termini.
Are their any other options to get there so early?
Thank you.
