Church service with choir in Munich?
We'll be in Munich in early November. Does anyone know of a Sunday morning church service with a nice choir? Thanks very much.

Roman Catholic church? Lutheran church? Other?

RC would be our first preference, but we're very ecumenical! A beautiful choir in a historic church is what we're looking for.

agrebe,
Are you both singers? If so, look at Day 3 of my recent trip report. The choir is VERY good - with a mix of former professionals with the remainder simply being excellent readers and musicians. They do two anthems every Sunday (often after just the one rehearsal). Typical stuff would be Tallis, Rachmaninoff, Durufle, Mozart, etc. It's not a historic church, however. Service is in English. http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...52710-6710.cfm |
The Dom (cathedral) usually has good choral and organ music for the high mass. Check Internet for times.
My favorite, though, is the Dom in Salzburg. There you get almost a full concert mass every Sunday at high mass. So, if you happen to be in Salzburg during your travels, be sure and catch the mass in the Dom. |
Bardo, We're not singers, but enjoy a nice choir at Mass. I really enjoyed your trip report as it includes several of the stops we'll be making, including the Golden Ente in Salzburg. We'll make note of your restaurant suggestions.
Treplow, thanks for your suggestions. We'll check out the Dom in Munich; unfortunatley we won't be in Salzburg on Sunday, but definitley plan to visit the Dom when we're there. |
The Dom in Salzburg often hosts visiting choirs; we were there with the San Diego Master Chorale (groupies, not singers, though). There are sometimes choral masses during the week, although the ones on Sundays are the most prominent.

We'll definitely check out what's happening in the Dom is Salzburg. Thanks, Underhill.
