Hi Ursula, we travelled on the Glacier Express from Zermatt and arrived in Chur at 4.30pm. We were leaving the next morning at 9.30am for Munich, so Chur was just a stopover rather than a visit. If this is the case with yourself, than I can tell you we stayed at a hotel (which really was like an old pub) within walking distance (10 minutes) from the station. It was basic and although the downstairs pub section looked abit rough, when we reach our rooms we were pleasantly suprised at the size and spotlessness of the room and bathroom. It was very inexpensive which suited us for the night. I have just searched and I cant find their web page.(My harddrive crashed last month and Ive lost all my travel info!!!) But the name is Schweizerhaus Hotel, Kasemenstrasse 10, Chur Phone 001141 081 2521096. If your after a quaint holiday BB for a proper visit of Chur, than I wouldnt recommend this particular one. - Hope this helps - Gayle

We are planning a trip that includes the Glacier Express. Gayle, I'd love any thoughts you have on your experience. I too was thinking of doing half one day, half the next. Which direction do you recommend traveling? How did you work out the air line? Thanks, Caroline

We stayed at a great place in Chur, it wasn't a bed and breakfast though. It was called the Romantik Hotel Stern, you can find more information at www.romantikhotels.com or http://www.karenbrown.com/switzerlan...otelstern.html. Prices range from 190-290 SF for a double. We had one of the best meals we've ever had at their restaurant - be sure to get the councilman's dinner. We really enjoyed our night in Chur, there are many small squares, fountains, and cobbled lanes.

I traveled the Glacier Express a couple of years ago. My travel agent had me booked into St. Moritz at a "lively" hotel at the end of a 3 week stay in the Alpine areas. I decided I wanted something a little more quiet and was quite pleased to have stayed in Arosa. The Panarosa Hotel there was reasonably priced and quite modern - sort of a traditional "sports" style built for skiers. Well recommended if you want a little change of pace.
