Chunnel or Plane?

I will be in London on business and then traveling to Paris for a few days vacation. I have the option of taking the chunnel or flying from Heathrow to CDG. I would imagine that getting to Heathrow from downtown London and then getting fromCDG to downtown Paris takes quite a bit of time, not to mention getting to the airport early for security reasons. So, which would you recommend - chunnel or plane?

Thank you!

You might try calling it by the correct name - Eurostar. I've neverheard anyone in Europe refer to it as the chunnel, that must be an American thing.

The Chunnel for reasons you've already stated. City center to city center in about 3 hours. Food was pretty good in 1st class, too

I love the train, so of course I'd recommend that. With all the fuss at the airport, it's probably equal in time (3 hours and you'll lose another hour going from London to Paris so it'll really be 4 hours).

I thought the food in first class was horrible so take something to eat with you or plan the trip between meals and then dine in Paris.

My guess is that time and money wise it will be close. While I am at the guessing game I will guess that you fly more often than you take a train so take the train for something different. I have taken the Eurostar (2nd class) for for one return trip and it was quite comfortable. One thing is you do not excape as security check with this train but it is not as intrusive as at airports.

Flew last time, which was in February. Wound up taking almost all day. Next time I will definitely take the train. I was not amused by the time it took to get through security at Heathrow.

We stayed in London one year and Chunneled! to Paris for the weekend. It was a perfect easy way to travel without any of the drama and tension of flying. You leave from Waterloo I think and arrive at Gare du Nord and take a cab to your hotel, all within about 4-5 hours.
Have fun!
