What a beautiful video. When did the decorations go up in Galleries Lafayette? I'm interested because we are going to Paris again next November (from 11/4 - 11/11 and I hope we will get to see the decorations. I am sure my wife will be making her required pilgrimage to Galleries Lafayette and Printemps - decorations or not.

The decorations tend to go up the first week of November so you will probably be able to see them.

Note to others: I just added some photos of rue de la Paix and Place Vendôme to my report, but actually most Christmas decorations are not yet up in Paris. I'm holding off going to the Champs Elysées for a few more days...

We're arriving in Paris Dec 18th--through New Years. I am so excited to be in Paris at Christmas and see those beautiful windows in person. Thank for you the preview!

I just added a new little video showing the chaotic crowds yesterday evening. Believe me, finding the best time to see the windows will take some careful calculation.

Love the store windows. I thought Munich's windows were special but leave it to Paris!

I am bumping this simply because we are now in December, after Thanksgiving, and it is now more appropriate.

Thank you for sharing. The windows are beautiful. When I was young the large department store downtown had some amazing windows. On the 12th floor was Winter Wonderland. Many of the displays in your photos remind me of that floor. Sadly that store is now a cement slab.

I'm in Paris this week Christmas shopping (tagging along on a work trip with DH), and practically had each beautiful window all to myself at Galeries Lafayette, in the middle of a sunny afternoon! Quite surprising. No crowds to view the "magical and ephemeral" tree light show inside, either. A few more people at Printemps, but nothing at all like I've experienced in NYC.

It was a zoo at GL and P last Saturday although Bon Marche was not quite as bad. They will open on Sundays this weekend so perhaps the crowds will not be as bad.

I will be updating the full (Anyport) thread with a bunch more "Christmas in Paris" photos soon, so I will be starting a new report then about "Christmas in Paris 2013" instead of just "Boulevard Haussmann."

Kerouac, since the stores will be closed on Christmas Day, am I correct in assuming that the window critters will not be "performing" then?

On the contrary, it is probably the day when the most people go to see the windows -- especially when kids need to be removed from the house for a few hours while some fancy cooking is being done. And of course, the windows are also in operation on Sundays when the stores are closed -- from now until Christmas, the stores will be open on Sunday anyway.

Kerouac, thanks for the information about the windows on Christmas Day; I am glad that they will be performing then. We will be in Paris for almost a week before Christmas, leaving on the 26th for a couple of days in Strasbourg, Metz, and Colmar and a few days in Switzerland. Planning to hit the markets and hopefully go to some of the Christmas concerts. The last several years we have been in Paris the first week of December and have seen several announcements for concerts in the days before Christmas; hope we spot those notices this time. Other than packing, we will not have much to do on Christmas, so viewing the windows should be fun. I know the Christmas Eve midnight mass at Notre-Dame is reputed to be a madhouse; is the 11:00 veille likely to be any less packed? We have been to a regular Sunday morning service at Saint-Sulpice (which has been my favorite Paris church since 1988) but the music did not seem quite as impressive as at Notre-Dame, so we may try it anyway. Thanks again for the info.
