Schnauzer,

Since it will probably be a while before I get to the neighborhood, here's a quick sketch.

It is awesome. Of course, this was my first trip to Paris so I cannot compare it to other neighborhoods. I do know that it felt like I was truly living in Paris. Although there was a small hotel across the street from our apt and a non-smoking restaurant with a menu posted in English next door to the hotel, I never felt as though I was in a tourist area.

The small food shops up and down rue des Martyrs were amazing. Oddly, there were also a lot of fancy hair salons. We did not have enough time to stop in the many non-food shops in the neighborhood. Long story short, we often got home late and tired and only ate out once in the neighborhood so I canít rate the restaurants.

We did take the metro or bus to most tourist destinations. Since we live in NYC, hoping on the metro to go to the Louvre instead of walking there from our hotel didnít seem like a huge inconvenience.

When we walked down rue Rivoli I was so happy that we werenít staying in an area that catered to tourists. I say go for the 9th if you want to pretend to be French. I donítí think that my husband and I are very adventurous, but when I mentioned taking the bus home from the Hotel de Ville to my running partner she was shocked that we would be so ďdaring.Ē It all depends on your comfort level.

Schnauzer: If you give me a FAX address(number) I will gladly send you he most indepth look at the 9th arr. including maps & a walk.

We have stayed just out of the 9th into the 10th off Blvd. Bon Nouvelle - can't say I'd ever consider that again.

I'm enjoying your report writerchicknyc. I remember when I saw the Eiffle Tower for the first time..I didn't cry but I was just so excited. I couldn't believe I was in Paris. It was a wonderful feeling.

Schnauzer: I stayed either in the 9th or right on the boarder..I've never been sure, but it was on Blvd. Haussmann, about four blocks from Galerie Lafayett. I have to tell you, I liked it there. We were also just a few blocks from Passage Joeffry..where Haussmann turns into Blvd. Monmartre.. and then Passage Panarama at the end of Joeffry. The Opera was very close with an easy walk to the Madeleine. Lots of shops, restaurants, and quite a few metro stops very close. I have no complaints about the area.

aww. I know I am going to cry when I see it, all the build up. I almost cried the other night watching someone's video of it twinkling at night on the hour.

I'm enjoying your trip report, and looking forward to reading the rest of it. Carry on!

(perhaps I've been watching too much Project Runway?)
