Christmas Show. Paris
A friend of mine (active 50s) is taking her 2 twenty something daughters to Paris for a week over Christmas. She'd like to take them to a show, and would like it to be something especially Parisien.
Does anyone have any recomendations, please? |
This is not specifically Christmas, but the Cirque d'Hiver (winter circus) is really fun, and definitely Parisien. The building is wonderful, and dates from the time of Napoleon.

Sheila , look at Nikki's post , Some Photos from November. She has some pictures on the site that she too at the Cirque d'Hiver

Maybe something here will appeal to them:

Oooh, the first event on StCirq's link appeals to me: Sara Baras Ballet Flamenco at the Theatre des Champs Elysees. True, flamenco isn't particularly French, but Sara Baras is supposed to be terrific, flamenco is really great to watch, and the Theatre des Champs Elysees is a beautiful art deco theater with a fascinating history. It is where Stravinsky premiered The Rite of Spring and the audience rioted.

Thanks chaps. Nikki kindly made some suggestions to me before. Any other thoughts?

Here is what Parisians consider to be 'major' holiday entertainment (in addition to those shows mentioned above):
La Vie Parisienne at Théâtre Antoine (875 seats) - Jacques Offenbach's famous operetta which ends with a scene at the Moulin Rouge with the most spectacular French cancan ever. Zorro at the Folies Bergère (1679 seats) - the Stephen Clark musical with music by the Gipsy Kings and plenty of flamenco ballets. Le Roi Lion - the Disney French production of The Lion King at Théâtre Mogador (1700 seats). Mozart l'Opéra Rock at the Palais des Sports (3800 seats) La Cage aux Folles at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint Martin (1050 seats) - the iconic French vaudeville play. |
(I just realized that I have no idea if I duplicated things in StCirq's link because I can't access 'tinyurl' from my office computer.)
