christmas markets in germany
 

Hi,

Can anybody help with a trip to a christmas market we a currently planning. We are driving through the euro tunnel and heading to Germany in search of a Christmas market. We would love to visit somewhere that has snow to enhance the whole christmas feel. Not looking for a big city but a nice town to visit that is not too far into Germany as we want to keep the travelling time in car down to a minimum and spend more time in the town. We will be looking at going around the second week in December. Is this a big ask or do places like this exist other than in the big cities.

Can't help on the snow, especially if you don't want to drive to Bavaria. If you just want a quick trip to a nice town close to the Chunnel, I'd suggest Saarbrucken. It's quite a nice town and not too small. Here's a link to the Christmas Market from a UK tourist page:

Late autumn isn't the right time to find snow in most of Germany.

Ride: Do a search for "Christmas Markets in Europe" and you may get some help. There have been several such posts (including one from me) and the answers were quite helpful.

Definitely can't guarantee snow in mid-December in most of Germany. For a very Christmas-y atmosphere (but also loads of tourists), Rothenburg is always a popular choice. If you aren't dead set on Germany, Strasbourg would be easy to get to and is very festive, with a heavy German influence.

Thanks to all for your help so far. We were only looking for Germany as we thought it would be ideal for the snow and the festive spirit although we are now aware that the snow is not where we thought it would be. Any other snowy destination would be considered, its just the driving time we would like to keep down. We know from experience that we can get from yorkshire to Luxembourgh in one day arriving around 6pm, so we thought another couple of hours could be in Germany. Any other suggestions appreciated.
