Christmas markets
I have visited most of the Christmas markets in the area bounded by Frankfurt, Heidelberg, and Nuremburg. This time am looking to go further south. Anyone have recs for small town markets south of this area? Many thanks!

Sounds like you are an expert already. We have enjoyed Rothenburg, Garmisch and Innsbruck. They are all smaller than the big ones in Munich and Nuremberg. It is just a fun time to drive around and see what the towns have going on. We even stopped in Ansbach one year and had fun.

I have heard good things about the market in Augsburg, and stugartt not exactly small towns. One small town that has a very good market is Bad Wimpfen, a great old town with a traditional market lining some of the main streets in town. Very good coments about the Market in Salzburg. I would be very interested to know if anybody knows of any town in southern Bavaria that still holds a St Nichols fire ?

Mr Compass: I could not agree more about Bad Wimpfen. I may be my favorite!

Weber, Yes the market in Bad Wimpfen was a great market. I thought the wood fire warmers were quite unique. The placement of the booths along the streets instead of a square made it special. I have not seen any other markets quit like that one.

Strassbourg and Colmar in the Alsace region of France are pretty special. Innsbruk Austria is nice. If you don't mind a really small town, Einsedeln in east Switzerland is very pretty.
