christmas lunch or dinner munich 2014

I will be in Munich over Christmas. Can you recommend a restaurant to have Christmas lunch or dinner on 25th. I am Australian, and we celebrate Christmas on Christmas day rather than Christmas eve.
There will be 4 of us travelling.
thanks heaps

What's always worked for me is to ask the hotel for a recommendation.

And I thought I planned ahead!

Hi mandalay -

I have no specific recommendations, but we were in Munich this past Christmas and had no trouble finding a place to eat. Several restaurants were open, many of them re-opening around noon on Christmas Day.

The city pretty much shuts down at 2 pm on Christmas Eve though, so finding a meal after 2 pm is more of an issue. We had a late lunch and then had nibbles in our hotel.

I'm not sure if either of these are open Christmas Day, but these were our two favorite eateries in Munich.

We also enjoyed this place - and they were open on Christmas:

The Augustiner is one of our favorite places to eat at in Munich. Great food and reasonable prices and not a bad beer.

Going out to eat on Christmas Day, the 25th should be no problem as it is a very popular day to go dine out. The problem is the evening of the 24th, when Germany kind of shuts down. Public transportation runs, but all stores and restaurants close about 14:00 as already mentioned. Best is to make reservations at a decent hotel that is doing a Christmas Eve dinner.

Goose is a popular Christmas Day menu item, so see if you can find a place serving this.

There should be lots of beautiful Christmas services on both days though.
