Christmas in Scotland
We are planning to spend Christmas in Scotland with my daughter who will be in graduate school in London. Does anyone have any suggestions for inns near Glascow or Edinburgh that would have be open during the holidays and have a restaurant?

Sheila,
GlasCow...Steer... I thought the pun was intentional since you have such a wicked sense of humour.
Priscilla800, once you give Sheila some more info she'll give you wonderful advice on travel in Scotland. Here's wishing you, and your family, a wonderful holiday in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Sheila,
Ideally, we would like to stay within a hour's drive of Glasgow, in the country or maybe a small town. There will be 4 of us and I would like to keep the price to no more than 200 euros/night per room plus meals if possible. I have read about places that have special Christmas packages with holiday decorations and typical holiday meals. Sorry I was so vague to begin with.

Well, a place I really like is the Tormaukin Inn, which is about 45 minutes drive north of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

A place I haven't been, but which is on the list is Champany Inn in Linlithgow. It's also well located.

Sherrifmuir Inn and Bouzy Rouge might be quite fun.
For a little more luxury have a look at the Highland in Stirling.

I hope these ideas help

All of Sheila's suggestions are good ones. Another one to check out would be the Lake Hotel at the Port of Menteith between Aberfoyle and Callander. www.heritage.me.uk/houses/lake_hotel.htm
I'm not sure they do Xmas specials - but they do New Year pkgs so its likely they also do Christmas ones.
